Position Description
The Anoka County License and Passport Services' mission is to provide a level of service that exceeds our customers' expectations. The department has an immediate opening for a Service Center Specialist who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include providing excellent service by assisting customers in obtaining passports, licenses, permits, and titles issued by the State of Minnesota.
This is a full-time or part-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of November 18th, 2024 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits
* Salary: $23.08 to $31.16 per hour, annual salary calculated based on hours worked.
* 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 28.

Work Location
* These non-exempt positions are located in Blaine, Columbia Heights, Coon Rapids, Ham Lake, and Ramsey.
* Service Center Specialists may be assigned to work at any of the centers throughout their career.
* Work hours range from Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide a high level of customer service by effectively communicating in a courteous and professional manner with the general public, car dealers, federal, state, and county entities, and other business partners in person and on the telephone.
* Process transactions on behalf of the county, state, and federal government agencies according to applicable laws and statutes.
* Verify information with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety & Department of Natural Resources through various means of communication including the State's data system, email, and telephone.
* Perform vision checks and capture digital images for driver's license and state ID cards.
* Collect and verify the authenticity of documents to determine eligibility required for the application/issuance of titles, registration, driver's licenses, passports, and/or birth, death, or marriage certification.
* Maintain confidentiality of information received or accessed during a transaction.
* Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
* Requires a high school diploma and at least 2 years of experience in a high-volume, face-to-face customer service environment.
* In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
* Successfully pass a driver's license background check.
* Must have valid driver's license and insured vehicle available for business use. Must obtain and maintain certification and access privileges to Department of Public Safety and other state agency systems.
* Must pass a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension criminal history check (requires fingerprinting).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* 2 or more years of customer service experience.
* Prior experience in licensing or passport services.
* Ability to learn and understand Minnesota Motor Vehicle Rules and Regulations as well as statutes and rules pertaining to the issuance of driver's licenses and game and fish licenses and permits.
* Interpret and understand legal terminology and complete duties with a high degree of confidentiality, accuracy, and efficiency.
* Handle cash and operate equipment such as calculator, copy machine, digital imaging equipment and personal computer.
* Work effectively and courteously with the general public and co-workers on a daily basis and in potential conflict situations, in person or on the phone.
* Occasionally lift and carry boxes of license plates and supplies with or without accommodation.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
* Standard office environment.
* Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
* Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
* Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.
* Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
* Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
* Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
