Job Description: ServiceNow Discovery & Service Mapping Engineer
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled ServiceNow Discovery & Service Mapping Engineer to design, implement, and manage ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping solutions. In this role, you will work closely with IT operations, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure accurate visibility into the organization's IT assets and services. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, and Service Mapping, along with a strong understanding of IT infrastructure and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Discovery Implementation and Management:- Configure and manage ServiceNow Discovery to identify IT assets across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Develop probes, sensors, and patterns to enhance discovery coverage and accuracy.
- Monitor and troubleshoot Discovery processes to address errors and improve data quality.
Service Mapping:- Design and implement ServiceNow Service Mapping to create accurate service models reflecting business services and dependencies.
- Define and configure service maps, including the relationships between applications, infrastructure, and business processes.
- Continuously refine service maps to accommodate changes in the IT environment and support evolving business needs.
CMDB Maintenance:- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the CMDB by reconciling data from Discovery and Service Mapping.
- Collaborate with IT teams to establish and enforce CMDB data standards, governance, and policies.
- Provide recommendations for CMDB enhancements and process improvements.
Integration and Collaboration:- Work with IT teams to integrate ServiceNow with third-party tools and platforms for data ingestion and workflow automation.
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to define Discovery and Service Mapping requirements.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure ServiceNow configurations align with organizational goals and ITSM processes.
Troubleshooting and Support:- Resolve issues related to Discovery and Service Mapping processes, including network connectivity and configuration challenges.
- Provide support for incident, problem, and change management processes as they relate to Discovery and CMDB.
- Develop and maintain documentation for configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and best practices.
Continuous Improvement:- Stay current on ServiceNow releases, features, and best practices for Discovery and Service Mapping.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve discovery accuracy, service mapping efficiency, and CMDB usability.
- Conduct training sessions for IT teams on ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping capabilities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Technical Expertise:- Strong experience with ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, and Service Mapping.
- Proficiency in configuring and customizing probes, sensors, and patterns in ServiceNow.
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure components, including servers, networks, cloud environments, and applications.
- Familiarity with protocols such as SNMP, SSH, WMI, and APIs for Discovery purposes.
Experience and Education:- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping.
- ServiceNow certifications such as Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) for Discovery or CMDB are highly desirable.
Soft Skills:- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Certifications required:
• ServiceNow Fundamentals
• ServiceNow Discovery Fundamentals
• ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery
• Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Fundamentals
• ITILv4 Foundations
• Cloud GCP/AWS certification preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and their integration with ServiceNow.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices, especially around IT Service Management and Configuration Management.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow scripting (JavaScript) and workflow automation.
