Duties Description Diagnose and correct the causes of faulty vehicle and equipment operation.

* Maintain, overhaul, adjust and repair gasoline and diesel engines, clutches, transmissions, and differential: ignition, wiring, lighting, fuel, cooling, braking and complex hydraulic systems, steering, wheel and suspension mechanisms, and body, cab, and frame components.

* Overhaul and rebuild starters, generators, compressors, pumps, spreaders, small engines, mowers, and a variety of other equipment, including but not limited to, track vehicles, loaders, cranes, shovels, lifts, hydraulics, etc.

* Make road calls, test drive equipment, complete reports, use parts catalogs, call to order and may pick up parts from vendors.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

* May perform a full range of supervisory duties.

Operational Needs:

* Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New York State CDL Class B License with air brake and tow truck endorsement.

* Utilize the AiM system.

* NYS Vehicle Inspection License. (Upon appointment, must register with the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles to participate in the training class).

* Able to operate a forklift (OSHA certification provided after appointment).

* Must be able to lift 80-100 pounds.

* Mandatory overtime for snow control/removal, Special Events, PM work, etc., on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

* Must be able to work on and drive front end loaders, backhoes, street sweepers, dump trucks, trackless snowplow, aerial lift truck (certified on the operation after company training is completed).

Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.

Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.

Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.

Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

* Candidates qualifying through the completion of appropriate course work should include a copy of their transcript or listing of course work completed.

* A copy of a trades union card is acceptable documentary proof of qualification.

* Candidates who do not submit appropriate documentary proof that they meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered for appointment.
