Obtain and maintain 100% Certified Technician Status with LMS, Cummins and other OEM's as required. Review customer's concerns and recent service history to gain a greater understanding of the vehicle complaint and concerns. Use online International and other OEM resources, (i.e. FCAP, EDS, Edith) to diagnose concerns.Monitor and communicate professionally with IKnow, EDS and other OEM case files.Obtain required information and documentation to initiate and successfully file warranty claims.Customer satisfaction:
Perform a courtesy inspection of every vehicle.Communicate any repair/preventative maintenance needed which is not noted on the work order. Always identify the three C's - Complaint, Cause, Correction.Determine necessary parts and labor needed to complete repairs and ensure customer is aware of all repairs and charges.Verify all service work has been performed and completed with the highest possible standard of quality.Communication:
Advocate open communications between shift technicians to ensure an efficient flow of information.Compliance:
Promote a safe (i.e. eye protection, etc.) and clean work environment.Ability to be insurable, drive a vehicle, and obtain and maintain a CDL (if required by location) with appropriate endorsements.Promote the proper use, care and storage of company tools and equipment.Other duties as assigned.SKILLS /TRAINING/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma, 2-year Technical School preferred. Equivalent amount of work experience may be considered in lieu of schooling.Unrestricted Driver's License - Technician must be able to safely drive vehicles around the location property as well as pull vehicles into the shop bays.CDL A or B License beneficial, assistance will be given to obtain if willing. (Some locations may require a CDL)Perform heavy duty truck/trailer repair and maintenance. Obtain and maintain 100% Certified Technician Status with Navistar/International, Cummins and other OEM's as required.Operate power and hand tools and other equipment used in servicing vehicles. Move freely throughout the service area, including continuous physical effort; climbing in/out of truck cabs, underneath trucks, bending, walking, manipulating tools/equipment, etc. Written (for documenting work) and verbal communication skills.Build and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and customers.Read and interpret work orders, service information and wiring diagrams. Use testing equipment including computers, breakout harnesses and other electronic diagnostic equipment to determine failed components. Perform basic math calculations.WORK CONTACTS: Internal contacts will consist of co-workers, immediate and departmental managers to exchange and provide information as well as to present and discuss information and/or issues. - Employee must access box lights to service same. Requires climbing ladder up to 24 rungs/hr. in 8hr.
- Employee must access cab interior to service same. Requires climbing stairs up to 18 steps/hr. in 8 hr.
- Requires walking up to 1.4 mi., in 8 hr. to access back parts counter, tool room, wash rack, trucks in lot, all areas of truck to service same.
- Employee must access truck equipment, e.g. chassis spring, cab mount, to service same. Must access spaces with entries 20 x 14.
- Employee must access equipment, e.g. brake chamber, to service same. Requires repetitive assumption of posture to access a point 12 in. from the ground, up to 28/hr.
- Employees must access under truck to service/replace equipment, e.g. transmission, suspension. Must work in spaces with 14 in. headroom.
- Employee must sit to drive trucks in/out of shop; operate forklift. Requires tolerance of seated posture up to .5 hr. per 8 hr.
- Employee must stand to service trucks; operate overhead crane. Requires tolerance of standing posture up to 7.5 hr., over 8 hr.
Lifting Requirements:
- Employee must remove/replace batteries. Must transfer batteries from floor to installation area. Requires vertically transferring same weighing 5 lbs. from 6 in. to 36 in., up to 6/hr.
- Employee must transfer power tools, hand tools from floor to area of need; must install small parts (air filters). Requires vertically transferring same weighing 10 lbs., from 6 in. to 72 in., up to 30/hr.
- Employee must transfer small parts, e.g. pistons/rods, from floor to wheel to area of installation. Requires vertically transferring same weighing 25 lbs., from 2 in. to 44 in., up to 12/hr.
- Employee must transfer parts, e.g., alternator, from floor to area of need to install same. Requires vertically transferring same weighing 35 lbs., from 4 in. to 55 in., up to 1/hr.
- Employee must transfer parts, e.g. alternator, from back parts counter to area of installation. Requires horizontally transferring same weighing 35 lbs., 1/hr., distance of 50 ft. without mechanical assistance.
- Employee must tip spring up to install same. Requires vertically transferring same weighing 80 lbs., from 2 in. to 45 in., up to 2/hr.
- Employee must install parts, e.g. brake drums. Must transfer parts from floor to area of installation. Requires vertically transferring same weighing 100 lbs. from 2 in. to 24 in., 4/hr.
