Title: Service Technician 1Classification: Non-ExemptDepartment: ServicePosition Summary: A Service Technician 1 at Idaho Steel Products, Inc. must have the ability to repair our machinery with assistance as needed for our customers. A mechanical aptitude and knowledge of Idaho Steel equipment and processing is also required. Travel will be required on a consistent basis for emergency repair work, scheduled preventive maintenance, or installation of the finished product. Strong work ethics, integrity, and a willingness to learn and grow within the company are also an important part of employment with Idaho Steel Products.Essential functions:
  • Ability to work safely and comply with all plant and state regulations without fail
  • Basic working knowledge of mechanical, steam, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in a multi-functional and diverse organization including strong customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, commitment to customer satisfaction and retention, and the ability to fill out all paperwork as required
  • Ability to multi-task and change priorities as needed
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance, scheduling, and clear/concise documentation
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Idaho Steel equipment and processing
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to problem solve
  • Understand the many different types of welding applications
  • Ability to set up and run the different welding machines that are within the company
  • Ability to accurately read and understand blue prints and their symbols and to apply them to the job at hand
  • Good mathematical skills in addition, subtraction, and basic geometry
  • A proficient understanding of the different metal that we work with, their applications, and clean up of such metals (Stainless steel, Carbon steel, Aluminum Alloy 20, and the different hardened carbon steels)
  • Clean up of welds and material that is being used
  • Understand the safety policies of the shop and to follow the shop safety practices
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Complies with all OSHA regulations as outlined in the OSHA manual and training (both Idaho Steel and Customer specific)
  • Maintains and uses required personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, work boots, gloves, etc.) when appropriate
  • Ability to stand/walk for a large percentage of the work day. The job also requires a lot of kneeling and bending
  • Must have dexterity/flexibility in head, neck, and shoulders to weld underneath/inside equipment at what may often be an awkward angle
