DescriptionThe purpose of the class is to perform mechanical repair work on County-owned trucks and other light-to-heavy equipment; to ensure that repaired vehicles run properly and safely; to perform repair work in the field as needed; to perform preventive maintenance on such equipment as scheduled; and to perform related work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.DutiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS* Drives service truck to field locations in response to service calls; assesses vehicle/equipmentcondition; and recommends appropriate course of action.* Performs mechanical repair work on vehicles and equipment.* Performs a variety of preventive maintenance duties, including changing oil, lubricating,replacing hoses and belts, replacing brakes, checking lights and tuning engines.* Changes and repairs tires on vehicles and equipment.* Fuels vehicles and equipment.* Delivers fuel to equipment and generators.* Replaces hydraulic lines and hoses as necessary on equipment and vehicles.* Conducts road tests after repair work is completed to ensure that vehicles and equipment aremechanically safe and functioning properly.* Assists parts personnel in ordering and picking up necessary vehicles, equipment parts, andmaintenance supplies.* Maintains records of work completed and parts used.* Attends training as required to maintain or enhance job knowledge and skills.* Performs other related job duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and Experience:High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in automotive/mechanical repair or a closely related field.Requires at least one (1) year of vehicle and equipment maintenance experience.Special Qualifications:Must possess a valid state driver's license.Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.
