About Us:The City of Glendale's Transportation Department works to ensure safe and efficient travel for the people of Glendale.

The Role:The Service Worker performs skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility.

The idealcandidate for the role will have one year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or in the operation of light, medium and heavy equipment related to area of assignment

Salary and Hiring Bonus:

This position is a Grade 310 with an annual salary between $42,714 - $64,071

In addition to a generous salary, this position offers a $1,000 Hiring Bonus!

Hiring Bonus to be paid as follows: $500 after 30 days of employment, $500 after 6 months of employment. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses

Holiday, Vacation, and Sick Leave:

Regular status position's offer:

* The City of Glendale observes 10.5 holidays per year, and full-time employees are also granted an additional 12 hours of holiday special leave per calendar year to celebrate their cultural or religious holidays.

* Vacation leave accrues at 5.33 hours per pay period (138 hours per year), and increases to 6.12 hours after 5 years, and to 7.6 hours after 10 years of service.

* Sick leave accrues at 4.4 hours per pay period (114 hours per year).

Retirement:

* This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

* Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.29%.

This position will be open until filled; applicants will be reviewed as they are received.

* Performs skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work, such as landscaping maintenance and repair work, such as irrigation repair, plant and tree care, and repair of specialized equipment.

* Operates various light, medium, and heavy equipment including brush tractors, dump trucks, mowing and sweeping equipment, trucks, truck with trailers.

* May provide general direction to other employees and volunteers.

* Uses various hand and power tools to accomplish tasks.

* Explains and enforces rules and regulations pertaining to safety, barricading, direction of traffic, hazardous materials, and operation of equipment.

* Notifies residents and businesses of work being performed; answers questions from citizens.

* Maintains daily work records; may perform some computerized data entry work.

* Transports and sets up supplies and equipment; makes required safety checks.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Right-of-Ways:

* Performs skilled, and semi-skilled landscape construction, maintenance and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility.

* Maintains right-of-ways, landscape, undeveloped properties and alleys.

* Trims trees and bushes, cares for plants, and applies herbicides and pesticides.

* Operates assigned equipment including chainsaws, weed eaters, brush tractors, front-end loaders, and other landscape-related equipment.

* Installs tests, maintains and repairs irrigation systems, vacuum breakers and valves.

One year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or in the operation of light, medium and heavy equipment related to area of assignment.

Knowledge of:

Rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to area of assignment

Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned areas of responsibility

Hazard, safety rules, precautions related to equipment operation

Traffic laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as they relate to equipment operation

Street layouts and routes

Ability to:

Read and understand blue prints, technical diagrams, and maps

Barricade work sites according to the Phoenix barricade manual

Understand and follow safe working practices

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Deal courteously with the public

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and citizens

Operate and perform maintenance and minor repair on light, medium, and heavy equipment

Perform general maintenance and service requirements of equipment in area of responsibility

Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and work independently

Accurately and timely complete reports and logs; record daily work activities and enter and retrieve information on computers

Operate and understand atmospheric sensing devices.

Maintain the appropriate state of Arizona driver license with relevant endorsements.

Coordinate hand and eye movements

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements: Applicants will be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.

Valid Arizona class D driver license

Positions in the Right of Way Landscape division require a Class A CDL with Tanker (N) endorsement within 6 months of hire. Work Zone Certification is required for all positions.

A WCISA Tree Worker Certification may be required for some positions within Right-Of-Way within six months of hire.

The Arizona Restricted Pesticide Certification may be required for some positions within Right-Of-Way within six months of hire.

May be subject to call back, stand-by duty, and evening, weekend and rotating shifts.
