The Office of International Services, a Department within Student Affairs, fosters a sense of international community that builds on the university's strong intellectual and Catholic mission. Office of International Services (OIS) supports the academic mission of the University by promoting international educational exchange within the University, maintaining compliance with federal requirements and supporting the Catholic U international community from immigration advising to cultural adjustment through programming. The mission is to support Catholic Universitys international students and scholars as they pursue their goals and careers.
The position serves as Designated School Official (DSO) and processes student requests for immigration benefits, working with the PDSO, Enrollment Services, Undergraduate and Graduate Admission and various academic offices. Monitors, maintains, and tracks student F-1 and J-1visa status, and updates records in the SEVIS database, university software and platforms, and OIS-internal databases. Issues initial I-20s for incoming F-1 international students. Runs weekly reports, creates graphics and does data analysis as it relates to international student trends. Hours may need to flex earlier or later than typical 9 am to 5pm as programming requires, occasional evening, weekend and possible holiday work will be necessary.
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: up to $60,000.
Responsibilities:Monitors, maintains, and tracks student F-1 visa status, and updates records in the SEVIS database, college software platforms (Terradotta, Target X, People Soft) and any internal databases. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), maintaining the SEVIS system and all related certification requirements. Organizes SEVIS data processing under DHS guidelines and maintains data quality control management. Issue initial I-20s for incoming students. Ensures all reportable events are updated by mandated SEVIS timelines for all international student records in SEVIS. Reportable events include: students' initial reporting to the university upon arrival; changes of address; changes of program and field of study; enrollment status; changes of employment status; and violations of status.
Assist with updating and maintaining the office website. Adhere to FERPA guidelines maintaining privacy and confidentiality of student records. Answer department related questions, respond to inquiries, schedule appointments and greet visitors. Answer telephones, take messages and schedule appointments as necessary. Function as a liaison with transfer institutions and refers students to appropriate College, University and community contacts to assist with this process.
Qualifications:A Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 3 years of work experience in advising and counseling students at an Institute of Higher Education and familiarity with international student issues.
Thorough knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Knowledge of immigration regulations governing international students and scholars. Experience working with SEVIS. Knowledge of Terra Dotta and Target X systems desirable, but not required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; computer skills in Microsoft Word and some database management skills desired. Sensitivity to international and multicultural populations. Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize them appropriately. Ability to evaluate situations clearly, analyze complex problems, and generate potential solutions while maintaining confidentiality. Ability to work independently, collaboratively and creatively with other university departments and government agencies.
