Position Summary: The Shelter Coordinator will ensure the smooth functioning of the overnight shelter by scheduling and supervising shelter staff, managing shelter clients, and providing on-call support for unforeseen circumstances.Essential Responsibilities:
- Schedule and supervise shelter staff
- Maintain records and statistics for shelter
- Provide case management for shelter clients
- Work with supervisor to ensure proper reporting to funding agencies
- Work with partner agencies, volunteers and staff to ensure quality service and a safe environment for clients
- Represent The Salvation Army at community activities, events and training
- Fill in, or find alternatives, for staff that may not be available (including overnight shifts)
- Arrange transportation for clients needing medical care
- Facilitate referrals to area social service agencies
- Use de-escalation techniques as needed
- Support clients to maintain stable housing
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:Education/Experience:
- High school diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- College degree in a related field (preferred)
- Experience working with low income or homeless individuals
- One year supervisory experience required

- Maintain client confidentiality
- Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics
- Adhere to professional codes of ethics as they apply to professional licensing
- Understand and adhere to professional boundaries within and outside of the organization
- Maintain client confidentiality and obtain appropriate releases of information
- Demonstrate a continued effort to increase self-awareness and to better understand other cultures and issues of social justice, and promote racial understanding and reconciliation
- Complete Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of hire
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
- Willingness to learn new software as needed
Certificates and Licenses:
- Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
- Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
