Position Description

Primary purpose: Under direction of terminal management, coordinates/assists in the completion of daily tasks of assigned employees to meet department goals and to ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

  • Provide direction for the loading and unloading of railcars, truck and barges, and verify that paperwork is correctly completed.
  • Ensure routine objectives are met daily:
  • Verify all transfers are performed.
  • Proper Personal Protective Equipment is worn by employees.
  • All drivers, visitors, contractors, and employees conform to company policies.
  • All preventive maintenance is performed as scheduled.
  • All Personal Protective Equipment is properly cleaned and stored.
  • All loading procedures are maintained.
  • All shifts are covered in the event of absence.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and present employee training.
  • Assist employees in troubleshooting difficulties in operations.
  • Confer with management regarding operational and employee issues.
  • Communicate with customers, vendors, and carriers as needed.
  • Assist management with recommendations on employee performance, safety, and incentive activity.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in and present daily/weekly safety meetings.
  • Coordinate general preventative maintenance activities, repairs, and housekeeping tasks.
  • Perform any other terminal functions as trained, requested, and instructed by supervision.
  • Position Requirements

    Minimum requirements:

    • Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
    • Experience / specific knowledge:
      • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and database applications.
      • Experience using hand tools for general maintenance tasks.
      • Basic knowledge and experience on specific terminal equipment.
    • Certifications, licenses, registrations: Valid driver's license.
    • Competencies, skills, and abilities:
      • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
      • Ability to accept supervision/direction and work effectively with others.
      • Basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
      • Must possess safety training and security certification as required.
      • Ability to focus attention, follow work rules, and maintain necessary records.
      • Successful completion of background check and drug screens.
    • Physical demands:
      • Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands, reach, and talk or hear.
      • Must meet physical requirements including walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights, and in various weather conditions.
      • Specific vision abilities required.
      • Must meet medical criteria for respiratory protective equipment use when required.
    • Working conditions:
      • Willingness to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
      • Must be available to respond to call-outs.
      • Work in dusty environment, various temperatures, and weather conditions.
      • Exposure to moving parts, fumes, vibration, heights, and noise.
      • Available for assignments at multiple berths within a 12-mile radius.
    • Supervisory responsibility: Yes
