I. Position Description
Plans, directs and manages the Shipping/Receiving and Trucking operations at multiple locations, in conjunction with Corporate Sales, Operations, Raw Materials and Traffic Departments, while coordinating the day-to-day activities of the salaried, hourly production and over-the-road drivers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Shipping & Receiving
* Coordinates with Corporate Operations, the amount of product to be shipped on any given day, inventories of finished lead and raw material at the plant or located in warehouses, add on loads, customer drop and hook programs and any special requirements, such as expedited deliveries to be made to meet customer expectations.
* Coordinates with Corporate Raw Materials regarding inbound loads, weight or product discrepancies, types of materials the plant can receive and process, and material flow to and from local warehousing.
* Coordinates with Corporate Sales on any customer concerns or complaints, resolution thereof, and planning or preparation needed for new customers.
* Coordinates daily/weekly/monthly activities with Corporate Traffic concerning all outbound finished lead loads regarding best method or means of trucking to minimize empty miles traveled to ensure cost per mile on fleet is at a minimum.
Transportation
* Registers and licenses company-owned equipment.
* Records and tracks fuel and mileage on company-owned tractors for tax purposes.
* Monitors Trailer Status Board in Scale Office to schedule maintenance of trailers in need of repair, tires, etc.
* Coordinates incoming and outgoing railcar movement with applicable railroads to ensure timely movement of raw materials and finished goods.
* Coordinates loading, storage, tracking and shipments of all excavated hazardous wastes generated by plant.
* Catalogues all incoming and outbound hazardous waste shipments and receipts.
* Coordinates activities, inventories, shipments, receipts and processing materials going in and out of the container storage area; RCRA requirement.
* Conducts annual re-orientation for Company drivers, ensuring all DOT rules and Regulations are enforced.
* Reviews Driver's logs ensuring DOT compliance.
* Check/verify Driver locations through use of Qualcomm.
* Maintains Driver's Qualification Files.
* Provides Driver's training, testing, as needed.
* Conducts semi-annual Driver's Safety meetings.
* Administers Driver's Safety Incentive Program.
* Orders Plant Diesel Fuel, recording usage by Work Centers and reports Plant's fuel usage to Corporate Accounting for tax refund purposes.
* Orders and coordinates deliveries and pick-ups of Lime and Electrodes for Furnace Department.
Local Outside Warehousing & Inventories
* Formulate policies and strategic plans for logistics operations in support of the businesss.
* Manages inventories, storage and movement of all material stored by the plant at outside warehouse facilities.
* Inspects outside facilities monthly to insure all material is properly stored, counts are correct, and materials are in good condition and meets current regulations
* Maintain an efficient team structure and performance through using LEAN principles.
* Provide excellent customer service and follow-up to meet customer expectations.
Reporting
* Manages four Work Centers which includes Local Trash Hauling, Over-the-Road Trucking, Shipping and warehouses.
* Monitors performance metrics for transportation, shipping, receiving and warehousing.
* Processes high volume of invoices to insure accuracy and timely payments.
* Check outstanding invoices in SAP and process for payment.
* Fuel and Utility Consumption Reports
* Smelter Inventories Recap
* Inventory Reconciliation Recap
* Disposal Costs
* Annual Inventory
Staffing
* Salaried - manages exempt and non-exempt classifications of employees in Shipping/Receiving operations. Processes weekly timesheets for payroll purposes. Performs annual performance reviews.
* Hourly Production - manages hourly production employees in Shipping operations adhering to USW Contract and their Attendance & Progressive Disciplinary Procedures. Processes weekly payroll. Performs annual performance reviews.
* Over-the-Road Drivers - manages over-the-road drivers; participating in IBT grievances, Contract Negotiations and adhering to the IBT Contract, Driver Policies Manual and the DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy Manual for Drivers. Oversees weekly payroll for drivers. Performs annual performance reviews.

III. Qualifications
A. PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS
* Preferably 5 years' work experience in managing a shipping/receiving and/or trucking operations.
* Prefer at least 2-year college degree in general studies.
* Current knowledge of DOT Rules and Regulations
* Strong, proven leadership skills.
* Strong organizational skills.
* Excellent interpersonal communications skills; written and verbal.
* Proficient computer skills proficiency; Excel, Word and Power Point

IV. Physical Requirements & Work Environment
A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
B. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
