Make your career in metal at Maysteel!SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Shipping Clerk is responsible for overseeing and managing the shipping operations at a warehouse facility local to our contract sheet metal manufacturing facility. This role involves coordinating the shipping and receiving of materials and finished products, supervising a small team of employees, and ensuring that all shipments meet quality standards and delivery deadlines. The Shipping Clerk plays a key role in maintaining efficient logistics operations and ensuring accurate documentation for both incoming and outgoing shipments.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Shipping and Receiving:
  • Coordinate the scheduling, packaging, and shipping of finished sheet metal products.
  • Ensure all outgoing shipments are properly labeled, documented, and meet customer specifications.
  • Receive and inspect incoming materials, verifying quantities and quality against purchase orders.
  • Utilize ERP to perform shipping and receiving tasks.
Supervision and Team Leadership:
  • Supervise and manage a small team of shipping personnel, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Assign tasks to team members and ensure all work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor team performance, maintain open communication, and provide feedback to promote a productive working environment.
Inventory Management:
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, including tracking incoming materials and outgoing shipments.
  • Conduct periodic inventory counts to ensure accuracy and stock levels are maintained.
  • Coordinate with production teams to ensure timely availability of materials and parts needed for manufacturing.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Prepare and maintain shipping documents, including bills of lading, packing slips, and shipping labels.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and filed in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the operations and administrative teams to resolve any discrepancies in shipments or records.
Logistics Coordination:
  • Arrange transportation for shipments, negotiating with carriers and freight companies to ensure timely delivery at the best possible rates.
  • Track and monitor shipments to ensure they reach their destinations on schedule.
  • Communicate with customers regarding shipping updates, delays, or issues.
Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure all shipping and receiving processes adhere to company safety policies and industry regulations.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for shipping, handling, and storage of materials.
  • Promote a safe work environment and enforce safety guidelines within the shipping department.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requires 2+ years of experience in a shipping/receiving role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Previous experience supervising a team or managing shipping operations is highly desirable.Must have strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills to supervise a small team, proficiency in using shipping software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of shipping regulations, including domestic and international shipping processes, strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and inventory management, and ability to work independently and manage shipping operations at an offsite location.COMPETENCIES:
