Career DescriptionJob Summary Lift, move and position loads of long, heavy, steel joists ready for shipping. Have full operational knowledge of all primary pieces of equipment in a shipping yard, in particular the competent use of high capacity, pneumatic, heavy duty fork lifts. Essential Functions
- Observe load hookup and determine safety of load.
- Manipulate fork lift vehicle controls to regulate speed, direction and movement of materials.
- Use hoisting attachments such as hooks, slings, or buckets as load requires.
- Perform daily safety checks and inspect vehicle for defective parts, notifying supervisor of defects.
- Build and band loads for shipment, tag loads for shipment.
- Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in an effective manner with customers, contractors, coworkers and supervisors.
- Perform all tasks assigned safely.

- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 18 months experience as Fork Lift Operator in shipping/loading of heavy industrial, or structural fabrication operations, or similar.
- Ability to read and understand order shipment paperwork.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisor, applying common sense understanding to carry out written, oral or diagram instructions required.
Work Environment
- Work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
- Noise level in the work environment is often loud.
