Job Summary
Someone in this position prepares finished products for shipment or storage by placing them in shipping containers, the specific operations performed being dependent upon the type, size, and number of units to be packed, the type of container employed, and method of shipment. Work requires the placing of items in shipping containers, and may involve one or more of the following: knowledge of various items of stock in order to verify content, selection of appropriate type and size of container, inserting enclosures in container; using excelsior or other material to prevent breakage or damage, closing and sealing container, and applying labels or entering identifying data on container. Exclude packers who also make wooden boxes or crates. (SCA 21110)
Responsibilities cover all facets of the distribution center to include shipping, receiving, storing, packaging, issuing functions, and processing of both non-hazardous material and hazardous material (HAZMAT) commodities.
Essential Functions:
- Places finished product in shipping containers
- Packing may involve knowledge of items in stock to verify content
- Select appropriate type and size containers
- Prevent damage by use enclosures, excelsior, or other material in containers
- Close, seal and apply correct labeling to container
- Ability to enter identifying data for containers
- Compare items and quantities against bill of lading (BOL), manifests, storage receipts, or other records
- Check for damaged goods
- Ensure product is properly identified for routing
- Data entry, i.e., Global Weight and cube for each item when received
- May complete BOL, custom forms, manifests, or other shipping forms IAW Defense Transportation Regulations (DTR)
- Generate work order, execute packing and labeling and record work performed IAW DLA SOP and DLA process manuals
- Utilize WMS IAW established SOPs.
- Stow receipts in specified areas/locations
- Ensure stock material is accurate, stored properly, preserved, and ready for issue
- Understand the facility storage plan
- Pick and pack requisitions/orders accurately; compare accuracy against requisition documents (NSN, quantity, and condition codes)
- Prepare/complete outbound requisitions to include physical conformance of packing, quantities, NSN and proper staging
- Ordering and filling SEAVANS
- Ability to use MHE and other equipment required to move and stage materiel
- Understand and meet established productivity and quality control goals associated with assigned functional area/process
- Understand and use the Government provided Warehouse Management System (WMS) and other Government Data Systems to perform the requirements of the Performance Work Statement (PWS)
- Follow established guidelines in performing day-to-day routine tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Technical Manuals, and Audit Readiness standards, etc.
- Understand the Acceptable Performance Levels (APL's) associated with assigned functional work areas/process and work expeditiously to meet contractual and team goals
- Adhere to government, contract, and company policies and procedures.
- Respond promptly to the Compliance Team (Inventory, Customer Service, and Quality Control) regarding any system discrepancies that cannot be resolved
- Ability to use e-mail to receive and disseminate workload tasks and information.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with co-workers, site management and CGA regarding operations and policies at the Distribution Center
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned in association with established Management and Contract Compliance Plan, and workload requirements, etc.
- Adhere to PTi quality, safety, and environmental standards
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- May be required to frequently handle equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds individually and occasionally items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance
- Able to exert moderate physical effort in the loading, unloading, and arranging of equipment/supplies as applicable to position.
- Ability to work inside and/or outside in dirty and dusty environments, and occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, damp, and drafty weather conditions while handling equipment/supplies.
- Able to perform work on hard or uneven surfaces.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of the governing supply systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines
- Skilled in planning, controlling, executing, multi-tasking and being responsible for the successful completion of work requirements
Skills:
- Ability to effectively read and write in English, comprehend written instructions, perform common mathematical tasks, and communicate effectively
- Knowledgeable in all Government and Commercial Traffic Management functions and processes, to include international shipping requirements, laws, and procedures
Certificate, License, Registration, etc.:
- US Citizen
- Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance applicable to the position and/or military Common Access Card (CAC) within 30 days if required
- Successful completion of WMS training, OSHA compliance, and DLA SOP training
- Completion of company mandated trainings applicable to position
- Valid Driver's License
Education
- Minimum high school diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Military or DLA Distribution experience
- Training and experience processing non-hazardous material and hazardous material (HAZMAT)
