Job Description:
Position Summary: The Shipping and Receiving Clerk will coordinate between drivers arriving to pick up loads of product from the warehouse and the warehouse operations personnel. This is a clerical position that is very much focused on ensuring that the paperwork for all shipments leaving a CDS distribution center is complete and completely free of errors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required, and may vary by site. • Comply with company policies, procedures, and expected standards of behavior. • Obtain daily scheduled shipment information from the customer service group and communicate with operational staff in order to ensure seamless execution to the shipment schedule. • Organize customer orders by appointment time. • Enter daily activity information into the various electronic systems • Check drivers in & out throughout the day, print bills of lading (BOL's), assign seals, print labels and outbound detail staging reports. • Obtain shipper's release numbers, destination, and trailer number. • Assign warehouse doors to drivers. • Update arrival/departure events information board and electronic yard management system order profiles with the information obtained from the drivers. • Print/reprint orders as necessary. • Ensure that order profiles are filled out correctly by operators. • Work with Supervisors in achieving daily goals on dock. • Keep shuttle orders going to operations in a timely manner for a continual and quick turnaround (where applicable). • Maintain and update schedule and board throughout shift. • Answer phones, direct calls to the appropriate party, and provide information to the caller as needed. • Work with operational resources to ensure that shipments are completed accurately in accordance with the scheduled departure time. • Work with the customer service group on schedule and order changes throughout the day. • Maintain accurate and organized files for each of the day's transactions. • Communicate with the next shift (where applicable) about the day's operations before the end of the shift. • Scan BOL's to respective databases and turn in all BOL's to the office at the end of the day. • Perform Door & Yard checks Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Required Education and/or Experience: • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) • 1.5-2 years of recent experience in a similar role; preferably in a fast-paced distribution environment • Proficient with an RF Scanner • Must have excellent communication skills; both written and verbal • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel Preferred Education and/or Experience: • Experience with WMS • Experience with RF-based warehouse Language Skills: Ability to speak, read, and write in the English language. Ability to compose reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate information in verbal or written format and effectively respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, employees, customers and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to create, understand and utilize basic excel reports. Ability to correctly read, interpret and process lengthy strings of individual digits in their correct order. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
