Job Description: Shipping & Receiving Assoc. Title: Shipping & Receiving Associate Positions Supervised: NoneDepartment: Production FLSA Class: Non-ExemptReports to: Shipping & Receiving SupervisorGeneral Description The Shipping and Receiving Associate handles day to day tasks for the company related to both shipping and receiving. This position is also responsible for verifying and maintaining accurate records on incoming and outgoing shipments, preparing items for shipment, and arranging the transportation of products. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Shipping & Receiving Associate I - This is the entry level. The employee requires higher levels of training and supervision to perform to manager expectations. Employees at this level have minimum knowledge of use of hand tools and record keeping.
  • Shipping & Receiving Associate II - This is the intermediate level. The employee performs a full range of job functions, requiring minimal supervision from leads and managers
  • Shipping & Receiving Associate III - This is the experienced level. The employee performs a full range of job functions and uses independent judgement in making decisions where alternatives are determined by established procedures, methods, and practices. Employees at this level should excel in all responsibilities and duties and require no supervision to complete all duties to manager expectations. They should be able to train entry level employees on the various functions and responsibilities of the position.
  • Receive all incoming freight and log into receiving log.
  • Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, sales instructions, or orders to verify accuracy.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Prepare shipping documents, such as commercial invoicing, certificate of origin, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Pack seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, computer equipment, or postage meter.
  • Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, forklift, or sorting bins.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Keeps shipping area clean.
  • Organize incoming freight and put away in designated area.
Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Aquire information from Sales Department and Purchasing Department.
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates.
  • Calculate shipping costs.
  • Coordinate shipping activities with external parties.
  • Pick up shipments from vendors for Purchasing & Inventory.
  • Deliver shipments to customers with the service vehicles.
  • Inspect shipments to ensure correct order fulfillment.
  • Order materials, supplies, or equipment.
  • Package objects for shipping.
  • Prepare documentation for contracts, transactions, or regulatory compliance.
  • Record shipping information.
Education, Work Experience, Skill Requirements & Certifications:
  • Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
    • High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience required:
    • Minimum 1 years of relevant manufacturing/shipping experience. 3+ years preferred.
    • Minimum 1 year of sit-down forklift experience
    • ERP experience a plus.
    • Experience in working with cryogenic equipment and/or hoses, valves and piping a plus.
    • Carpentry and construction experience a plus.
  • Skills Required:
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced warehouse environment without constant supervision.
    • Must have excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize work and handle last minute demands appropriately.
    • Ability to use power tools, i.e., cordless drills, chop saw, nail gun etc, required for crating shipments & loading flatbeds.
    • Ability to read truck layouts and crate layouts provided by design engineers to assist in loading shipments.
    • Ability to drive service truck with trailer attached.
    • Proven success with working in a team environment.
    • Good communication, written and grammatical skills. Customer service oriented.
    • Entry level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and general data entry.
  • Minimum License, Certifications & Affiliations/Memberships and CEU's
    • Must be 21+ with a Valid California driver's license and insurance to make deliveries in company vehicles.
    • Forklift operator experience.
    Special Requirement:
    • May be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates; schedules will be determined by management with at least 48 hours advance notice.
    Work Environment: Working in the shop, the following conditions may apply:
    • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
    • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.
