Job Description:

The Shipping and Receiving Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and accurate movement of goods within the organization. You will be responsible for managing a team, coordinating shipping and receiving activities, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies. This position plays a vital role in optimizing logistics processes and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to shipping and receiving staff, including hiring, training, scheduling and performance management.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of products.
  • Collaborate with various departments to schedule shipments, prioritize orders and meet customer demands.
  • Implement efficient routing and transportation strategies to minimize costs and maximize delivery speed.
  • Oversee accurate tracking and recording of inventory levels using appropriate software systems.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventories to ensure data accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Monitor stock levels to prevent stockouts or overstock situations, optimizing inventory turnover.
  • Ensure products are properly packaged, labeled and documented for shipping in compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols in the shipping and receiving areas to prevent accidents and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain organized records of shipments, receipts and inventory transactions.
  • Generate and analyze reports related to shipping and receiving activities, identifying trends, discrepancies and areas for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining processes, reducing costs and enhancing efficiency in shipping, receiving and inventory management.
  • Develop and implement best practices to optimize workflows and improve overall logistics performance.
  • Collaborate with customer service and sales teams to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns related to shipping and receiving processes.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of diverse individuals.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and systems.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accuracy in all aspects of the role.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards in shipping and receiving.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (7+ years) in shipping, receiving and inventory management, with a track record of progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Experience in a variety of technology (desktops, laptops, PDAs, etc.).
  • Experience using general office equipment (computer, fax machine, and copier, etc.).
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel (especially Excel spreadsheets) and Outlook.
  • 3 years of customer service experience preferred.
  • 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
  • 5 years of inventory and warehouse management experience preferred.
  • 7 years of warehouse supervisory experience preferred.
