Responsible for scheduling inbound shipments for Receiving, booking and scheduling outbound shipments for Shipping, tracking inbound shipments, monitoring deliveries versus Receiving schedule, and freight invoice audit/approval.
Key Responsibilities:
· Work safely with a safety-first mindset, including compliance with all safety procedures, and attend monthly safety meetings
· Work with other Logistics team members, Receiving, Shipping, Security, Sales, and Plant Operations in a team concept, coordinating shipment appointment times, to maximize Customer satisfaction while optimizing efficiency of company Receiving, Shipping, and plant operations
· Ownership of Shipping & Receiving calendar, optimizing shipment scheduling within operational parameters
· Schedule inbound delivery appointments with brokers and carriers
· Book and schedule outbound shipments on a timely basis in coordination with Shipping, to maximize plant operations efficiency and available warehouse space while minimizing shipment delays and additional costs
· Develop relationships and communicate clearly with contacts at our contract freight brokers and carriers to ensure mutually beneficial business partnerships
· Proactively track and monitor status of active shipments to ensure on-time pickup and delivery. Proactively communicate any changes or delays to Shipping, Receiving, Sales, and/or Operations as necessary.
· Initiate Shipment ID numbers in Microsoft NAV ERP system, including accurate shipment details, as requested by Sales on Customer Pickup forms
· Audit freight invoices for accuracy, approve for payment
· Perform job duties, responsibilities, and assignments according to operational standards and procedures, on a timely basis as required or assigned
· Clear communications with Supervisor, Team members, and Peers
· Assist with logistics-related projects
· On rare occasions, provide emergency logistics support from home (via company laptop & cell phone) after office hours, up until 7PM weekdays, as needed
· Follow all company core values, certifications, policies, and procedures
· Maintain efficient and effective use of time while observing safe work practices
· Report to work as scheduled to support Customer and Plant Operations needs
· Maintain good housekeeping and clean work area in your assigned space
· Backup other Logistics team members as needed
Qualifications:
· Two years prior Logistics/Transportation operations experience strongly preferred
· Working knowledge of truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL) freight, and import/export containerized freight (FCL), including equipment, warehousing, and transportation operations
· Strong attention to detail and communication skills required
· The ideal candidate is a self-starter, with high energy
· Ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks & goals through completion on a timely basis, in a rapidly changing work environment, while maintaining a high-quality work product
· Ability to work independently, identify priorities and escalate potential issues, execute objectives, and make operational decisions within the framework of the job responsibilities
· Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Office software suite. Strong Excel skills. Easily adaptable to menu-driven systems.
· Ability & desire to find new ways to accomplish tasks & goals more efficiently
Working Conditions:
· Main function/environment will be office work
· Occasional donning of standard Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, safety glasses, and ear protection while on the plant/warehouse floor; Maintain compliance with all plant safety procedures during occasional observation and interactions with Operations personnel on plant/warehouse floor.
