Central Washington University is recruiting a Shipping/Receiving Warehouse Operator (Warehouse Operator 1) to join our Shipping/Receiving team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

The Warehouse Operator 1 is the liaison between United States Postal Service, UPS, FEDEX, and other shipping businesses and CWU departments. You will report to the Director of Administrative Services. Under the general direction of the Mail Processing Driver Lead, you will coordinate the receipt, delivery, and shipment of materials. The warehouse program must comply with adopted security standards; federal and state laws; university policies and procedures; and align with the industry best practices. The Warehouse Operator 1 is responsible for receiving/shipping center including the transfer and delivery of equipment, merchandise, materials, and supplies. Additionally, performs the functions of a mail processing center, and/or warehouse/inventory support functions. Job Duties

Shipping/Receiving Center: - Unloads and loads incoming/outgoing freight, including flammable and/or hazardous materials and equipment using various types of equipment (hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.). - Inspects and reconciles shipping and purchase order documentation for accuracy and compliance with university policies. - Inspects and documents freight for damages incurred in transportation. Packages and returns any damaged or otherwise unacceptable freight. Contacts vendors concerning freight discrepancies and shipment damages. Contacts claim inspectors and file damage/loss claims forms on freight, equipment, etc. - Unpacks incoming merchandise and equipment and review/compare condition, quality and types against shipping documents, purchase orders, etc. Inputs appropriate information into automated receiving portion of the financial software (MyCWU). - Transports and delivers products to the university departments, housing facilities, student centers, and off-campus centers. - Communicates with departmental customers to resolve complaints and provide information regarding discrepancies on orders. - Receives, transports, and delivers courier packages (UPS, Fed Ex, etc.) to the university departments and housing facilities. - Operates and maintains automated courier service equipment. - Communicates and works with customers to determine the most economical means of receipt and delivery of courier packages. Mail Processing Center: - Picks up and delivers mail (envelopes, parcels, packages, boxes, etc.) from and to the United States Post Office, university departments, student housing facilities, off-campus centers, etc. - Sorts mail for delivery purposes. Processes and analyzes bulk mailings for the most economical postage rates. May lead others in the sorting/distribution of bulk mailings. - Operates and maintains automated postage equipment. - Delivers mail to campus departments and locations. Complies with university and department safety requirements and routes for operating delivery vehicles. - Reconciles and prepares journal vouchers for various types of mailings and return-mail that is routed back to the University. - Communicate with departmental and housing employees and students to resolve complaints and provide information regarding postage charges, and mail and courier pickup/delivery schedules. Warehouse/Central Stores: - Assists customers at warehouse. - Releases stock inventory and special orders to applicable personnel using automated work order system software. - Prepares outgoing stock orders for university departments. -Delivers stock, special, and downtown orders to the departments or construction location. - Assists with stocking shelves. - Participated in (mandatory) annual Central Stores stock inventory. - Coordinate removal of empty pallets with CWU Surplus office. - Maintain safe load/unload area free of debris and snow. -Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Physical capability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • Experience operating various lifts and/or forklifts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating automated mail/courier processing and distribution equipment.
  • Experience operating automated receiving/shipping systems and equipment.
  • Experience performing basic computer functions, such as spreadsheet and word processing.
  • Warehouse and inventory management experience.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: This position is based on the range 32G of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $39,804 and maximum annual salary of $45,732. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch); Mandatory Inventory - 1 Saturday per year / WFSE Bargaining Unit 1

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer workstation for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required. This position may work indoors and outdoors at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required, and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
