Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance; installing component and parts; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, components, parts within systems such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. Interprets diagnostic test results accurately. Writes detailed inspection reports and repair plans. Collaborates with other diesel technicians. Perform test drive to gauge performance. Adhere to inspection procedure checklist. Uses power, machine, and hand tools safely. Follows all repair shop regulations and standards Ensure a safe and clean work environment. Follow procedures for quick and efficient handling of warranty items, including tagging and proper storage of these items. Greet customers in a courteous and friendly matter. Notify Service Advisor of any changes, delays or additional work needed in a timely matter. Handle customer complaints reasonably, showing empathy and a positive attitude. Give special attention to repeat repairs to ensure the situation is corrected. Other Duties-As Assigned. Job Requirements: Knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms. Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment. Knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics. Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software. Treat all employees and customers fairly, courteously, and with dignity. Effective collaboration and communication skills. Demonstrates time management, organization, and problem-solving skills. Experience with Cummins Engines, Allison Transmissions, electrical, HVAC and steering components preferred. High school diploma or GED certificate. Diesel Technician or Mechanic Degree. 3-5 years' experience with diesel engine and truck repair. Valid State or Federal A/C Certification Preferred. Engine certification (Isuzu, Cummins) Preferred. Basic computer skills. Must have own tools. FMCSR Annual Inspection Certification Training Preferred. Valid Driver's License; CDL Class A preferred. Working Conditions: Frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to exhaust fumes or airborne particles. Is potentially exposed to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a mother vehicle service department.
