Job Description:

Job Summary: The Shop Hand will work under the Maintenance Manager and assist the maintenance team in performing repairs on vehicles, equipment, and yard maintenance. Responsibilities:

  • Perform DOT inspections on semi trailers.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on company equipment such as services, tire changes, hose repairs and engage in other similar tasks.
  • Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
  • Updates maintenance and repair orders for vehicles.
  • Assist in the fabrication shop with welding, fitting, threading, and grooving pipe when needed.
  • Performs building and ground maintenance as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of vehicle repair.
  • Excellent mechanical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read service and repair manuals.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Previous experience welding preferred.
  • Related mechanical experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
Working Conditions: This is a physically demanding position. The employee will stand for eight or more hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works inside and/or outside and is exposed to all weather elements, including: extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, twist, push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to use fingers, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. They will use a variety of hand and power tools as well as operate heavy equipment. The employee will be exposed to noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
