Classified - Position - Other, please specify Job Number 370####### Start Date Open Date 07/12/2024 Closing Date Job Description POSITION TITLE: SHORT-TERM SUSPENSION STAFF REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPALOVER-TIME STATUS: NON-EXEMPT PAY GRADE: 409 JOB SUMMARY: Performs intermediate paraprofessional protective service work monitoring students in the short-term suspension program and maintaining security at the school; does related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Facilitates the short-term suspension program, monitoring behavior and academics; implementing strategies and initiatives for students assigned to short-term suspension; enforcing established rules and regulations.
  • Monitors students who have been assigned to the short-term suspension program;
  • Explains expected conduct and achievement;
  • Assists with student work during suspension periods; reviews student progress;
  • Discusses behavior of students with administrators, teachers and parents;
  • Maintains communication with parents regarding student progress and daily operations of the short-term suspension program;
  • Manages records and communication with home schools regarding student attendance and progress;
  • Prepares and records misconduct reports;
  • Maintains security during lunch periods;
  • Monitors online learning and assignment completion in core content areas--English, Math, Science, Social Studies
  • Supports restorative activities;
  • Investigates unusual conditions or disturbances involving student behavior;
  • Gathers and interpret data involving the students who are assigned to the short-term suspension program;
  • Knowledgeable regarding discipline techniques for handling challenging behaviors
  • Makes recommendations to the short-term suspension administrator on behavior and student performance;
  • Supervises materials, activities, and resources for students;
  • Confers with appropriate school personnel on matters of behavior and academic responsibilities;
  • Submits reports as required;
  • Manages the short-term suspension program and regularly attends meetings and conferences relating to the job;
  • Develops and keeps a current data and record file on all short-term suspension students;
  • Maintains confidentiality on student behavior;
  • Understands culture, child development, social welfare and basic psychology for teaching and working with students in an urban setting;

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of practices concerning short-term suspension programs, restorative practices, and appropriate methods of dealing with misconduct; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to recognize and identify activities or situations which have or may become a problem or emergency requiring immediate attention; ability to think and act quickly, effectively and responsibly under emergency situations; good physical condition; ability to present ideas effectively; establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, general public, parents, administrators and other school officials; knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of student support services and school law. This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires standing, and walking; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise.
