Salary Range: $41,521.19-$41,521.19 (hiring range)

Full Range Potential: Up to $53,029.78

The hiring range represents the starting salary range for new employees based on education, experience, certifications, and licenses. However, our full salary range offers additional opportunities for salary growth as employees gain experience, skills and demonstrate performance over time.

Installs and repairs all types of traffic signs and markings and fabricates signs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Under direct supervision, performs entry-level manual labor or mechanical duties. Employees at this level perform the full range of tasks associated with the position and work under close supervision while learning the procedures, performing the duties, and acquiring skills.Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

* Fabricate street signs as needed for replacement or new install and applies printed sign to correct substrate for medium.

* Performs maintenance and repair to traffic control signs including removing and replacing damaged sign posts.

* Installs and removes traffic control signs and pavement markings in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

* Performs inventory of traffic control devices and supplies necessary for sign fabrication.

* Sets up cones, barrels, barricades, and traffic transitions at installation/repair sites, during special events or emergencies for the protection of personnel, equipment and motorists.

* Trims trees and brush away from traffic signs.

* Completes work records to include information such as location of job site, work performed, and materials used.

* Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment and tools.

* Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience: Six (6) months experience in sign and pavement markings maintenance or related fields.

Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Licenses and Certifications: Ability to obtain the Work Zone certification within one (1) year of employment. Ability to obtain a Signs and Marking Level I certification within one (1) year of employment.

Conditions of Employment: Must submit and pass a pre-employment drug, pre-placement medical examination and the job placement assessment (JPA). Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver's License Class C and good driving record as defined by City policy. An applicant who does not possess a Texas Driver's License or proper class, will be allowed ten (10) working days after a job offer is made to obtain proper licensing.

Other Requirements: Ability to work on-call rotation and respond to dispatched calls according to city and departmental policy and procedures.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Common principles, practices, equipment, materials, and methods used in the maintenance and repair of traffic signs and pavement markings; basic knowledge of power and hand tools; and work zone traffic control.

Skilled in: Reading and understanding maps and directions; operating assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner; performing basic mathematical skills; using measuring devices; applying relevant federal, state, and local signs and markings codes; completing related paperwork, work orders, etc; accepting responsibility for his/her actions; performing work accurately and thoroughly; following instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks; communicating effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing; being punctual and attending work regularly; and working effectively with people regardless of their race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, veteran' s status, genetics, or job type.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to climb and descend stairs, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking, hiking, and/or climbing in and through operational areas to identify situations, problems, or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate the above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb to perform work and inspect work sites, and push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

Employees work primarily in the field and may be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road and/or land hazards, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees work partially in an office environment with moderate noise levels and controlled temperature conditions. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
