JOB TITLE: SINGLE ROLE PARAMEDIC

DEPARTMENT: FIRE

NON-EXEMPT: NO

FULL-TIME: YES

GRADE: HF (RATE OF PAY: $20.85)

JOB SUMMARY: The person employed in this capacity will perform his/her duties under the direction of the EMS Division Chief with immediate supervision by the Battalion Chief of his/her assigned district. The Single-Role Paramedic will also work closely with Medical Center EMS and the Medical Director to provide exceptional ALS treatment of patients. The Single Role Paramedic will provide primary care and/or advanced life support of the ill and injured; respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency calls for service; participate in community risk reduction and public education activities; perform station and equipment maintenance and a variety of other duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Support existing health services; provide integrated health services in partnership with other health professionals; extend access to health services delivery in underserved and general populations, including primary care, public health, disease management, prevention and wellness, and mental health.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Respond to EMS calls to provide Primary Care of ALS/BLS for all patients.

* Respond to working fires to perform medical monitoring and firefighter rehabilitation.

* Daily/Monthly medical check-off of all supplies and equipment and restock as needed/used. Clean living quarters/station and response vehicle daily.

* Provide medical stand-by for city events and public events.

* Teach/Assist in educating the community on injury prevention, promote hands only CPR and Resuscitation Academy/4-minute City program, Wellness Program, Blood Pressure checks, and Community Para-Medicine.

* Participate in rescue type training (high angle, confined space, tactical medic, etc.). Obtaining certifications in these specialties is encouraged.

* Perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSE:

* Minimum of 1-year field experience as a Paramedic.

* Licensed in the State of Tennessee as a Paramedic or Critical Care Paramedic with credentials as a National Registry Paramedic. (desired) or eligible for reciprocity in the State of Tennessee.

* Advanced Credentialing as a Critical Care Paramedic or Community Paramedic is encouraged.

* ACLS, PALS and PHTLS certification. (desired)

* BLS (required)

* FEMA IS-00100, IS-00200, IS-00700, IS-00800. (desired)

* Ability/Interest to teach EMT-B and EMT level courses, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and BLS.

* Serve as support for JFD Operations personnel during fire events.

* Must be able to pass a physical agility test designed for EMS operations.

* Able to handle a high-pressure working environment.

* Considerable knowledge in both EMS and Rescue principles.

* Excellent Communication and record keeping (report writing) skills required.

* Public Speaking experience. (desired)

* Valid driver's license.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

* Moderate word processing, basic email, and internet skills required.

* Ability to learn specific job-related software applications (i.e.; patient care report, cardiac monitor transmitting, etc.)

* Must be able to multi-task.

* Must be able to pass a physical agility test designed for EMS operations.

* Maintain knowledge of all medical protocols, department policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

* Perform all duties in a safe manner.
