  • Full-time, Direct Support Professional.
  • Monday through Friday
  • Weekday shifts typically run 1p-9p
  • Occasionally Saturday shifts, typically run 8a-4p
Direct Support Professional RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • FUN, FUN, FUN
  • Enjoy interacting with others.
  • Being involved with attending and scheduling outings in the surrounding area.
  • I.e. Bowling, movies, concerts, shopping, and etc.
  • Assistance with contacting individuals, programs, and/or families regarding events.
  • Transports individuals to and from activities with agency vehicle
  • Documents all program data accurately and timely.
Direct Support Professional SKILLS:
  • Provides excellent customer service and acts as a role model to others.
  • Ability to effectively coach individuals to achieve success in the community and in group settings.
  • Possesses strong eye for detail.
  • Possesses strong communication skills.
  • Possesses some computer skills.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR Direct Support Professional:
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent required.
  • Valid NYS driver's license with a safe driving record

Summary:In order to enhance the quality of life of individuals supported in the Community Service Program, this position will research, plan, coordinate, and participate in a variety of social and recreational opportunities, act as the Special Olympics liaison, and ensure opportunities are optimized for individuals supported.Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate a variety of social and recreational opportunities based on the interests of the individuals supported.
  • Work with regional Special Olympics council to identify events, enroll interested individuals, ensure appropriate paperwork is completed, and coordinate transportation to practices and regional events.
  • Serve as a Direct Support Professional, providing hands on support as needed, including assistance with activities of daily living as needed.
  • Coordinate larger recreation events within the southern region
  • Attend life plan and team meetings as applicable for individuals that participate in the program
  • Participates in quality assurance and compliance activities as required.
  • May require travel as part of this position.
Nonessential Functions:
  • Participation on agency committees and at agency functions.
  • Any other applicable duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Be physically able to assist individuals in transferring from wheelchair to other seat when needed.
  • Walk up and down stairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid NYS driver's license with a safe driving record
Working Conditions:
  • Will be required to use office equipment, i.e., phone, copier, fax, and computer
  • Work will require offsite travel to sites, meetings, conferences and trainings.
