Job Description:
PURPOSE:We are seeking a highly skilled Planner specializing in automation and project coordination. This role supports the development, installation, and commissioning of advanced automation systems for a state-of-the-art automotive manufacturing facility. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that automation systems meet technical, operational, and safety standards.RESPONSIBILITIES:Phase 1: Construction & Engineering
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure automation scopes align with project requirements.
  • Facilitate regular design discussions and evaluate supplier proposals.
  • Provide first-level support for supplier queries and escalate issues as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) standards in design.
  • Supervise implementation planning, ensuring compatibility with shop floor IT systems (e.g., SCADA, MES).
  • Review and approve e-plans and PLC programs for content accuracy.
  • Document project progress through meeting minutes, reports, and presentations.
Phase 2: Installation & Realization
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of equipment and systems.
  • Evaluate and optimize concepts for cost-efficiency and technical feasibility.
  • Conduct and document process FMEA in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Manage schedules, monitor timelines, and maintain regular project updates.
  • Standardize automation elements, including HMI visualization and PLC programs.
  • Coordinate data collection for operational metrics like material and energy consumption.
Phase 3: Commissioning & Documentation
  • Oversee system commissioning, including testing and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Train operating personnel and provide technical support during production ramp-up.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive documentation, including technical reports and change logs.
  • Address and resolve defects promptly to ensure system functionality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automation systems, preferably in the automotive sector.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Strong project planning and coordination abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal teams.
  • Ability to document and report project progress effectively.
  • Proficiency in Siemens STEP S7 (classic and TIA V17), WinCC, SCADA (Legato Sapient), and E-Plan P8.
  • Familiarity with Profinet, Ethernet, and other industrial communication protocols.
  • Expertise in automation standards, drive technology, and safety regulations.
  • Experience with Volkswagen's automation and electrical equipment standards is highly desirable.
  • Strict confidentiality and adherence to safety standards are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.

  • Location: Columbia, SC (Primary) and Detroit, MI (as required)
  • Schedule: Day shift
  • Travel: As needed
