Job Description:
Panhandle Power Solutions (PPS) is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the SSHO position at MacDill AFB (Tampa, FL). Candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, organizing, implementing, and executing all safety administrative and performance requirements for an assigned project in accordance with contract specifications, EM-385-1-1, OSHA, internal Safety Management System, and Accident Prevention Plan (APP), while fully integrating with the project team to support the safe production of quality work. This position may provide oversight to daily activities for assigned direct reports. This SSHO position must work on-site.Specific Duties
  • Serve as the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) representative for the General Contractor, PPS.
  • Conducts safety meetings, project audits and inspections to measure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up to ensure compliance.
  • Provide technical expertise in the HSE area as well as industry standards and accepted practices.
  • Review proposed construction projects' Scopes of Work, to identify potential hazards and establish appropriate control measures. Focus will be on accident prevention through Pre-Planning.
  • Assist Project Managers and Site Leadership in implementing project/site specific safety plans.
  • Maintain all safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Provide, maintain and update all safety related signage/bulletins.
  • Provide support for and/or conduct daily JSA and safety meetings.
  • Ensure all equipment inspections are performed as indicated.
  • Assist in investigating all job site incidents and injuries, root causes, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain all required documentation regarding inspections and employee training.
  • Assist superintendents or competent persons in the evaluation of project compliance.
  • Maintain project safety bulletin board; and
  • Track safety inspection deficiencies to closure.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking surfaces including construction-based based trip hazards (uneven ground, debris, material etc.).
  • Construction activities may expose employee to noise, drop/overhead hazards (struck by).
  • Confined space monitoring.
  • Working near/on heavy machinery & equipment (pinch points/traffic hazards).
  • Must be able to speak English and deliver formal training to an audience.
  • Inspections will require the ability to climb, bend, twist, stoop down, raise arms over head, and work from heights numerous times throughout the day.
  • Light lifting of 50 Lbs. or less can be expected on an irregular basis.
Experience:
  • A combination of equivalent work experience, training in the field, and/or Occupational Safety and Health certificate programs through the OSHA Training Institutes or other national recognized safety training organization (whether certificates or degree programs), professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, and ASP through BCSP may be qualifying.
  • Five or more years applied work experience (or equivalent) in the construction industry required, with five or more years' experience (or equivalent) in construction safety management at the jobsite level.
  • Competent person training or experience in Fall Protection, Confined Space, Electrical, Trenching/Excavation, PPE, and Electrical Safe Work required. Other related professional degrees or certificates desired and will be considered in lieu of competent person training.
  • Five or more consecutive years of documented safety training, averaging 24 hours per year required.
  • Previous experience with NAVFAC, USACE clients and EM385-1-1 preferred.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet, etc.) required.
  • Specific software literacy (RMS/QCS) preferred.
Current CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30-hour (within past 5 years) certifications required. Must be able to pass a background check for base access and the Restricted Area Badge (flightline access).Other details
