Nature of WorkAssist in the administration of a specific project's safety program to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the project through all stages of construction; perform safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement
  • Responsible for coordinating, preparing, submitting, managing, communicating, implementing, and enforcing compliance with the project's APP (Accident Prevention Plan) and other safety and health submittals as required by the contract
  • Prepare, review, authorize, and implement Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) Program for each specific feature of work
  • Monitor and conduct routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspections of the project on a daily basis. Inspect temporary facilities and project's fire, safety, and environmental equipment for serviceability, calibration, and compliance with established regulations, policies, and standards
  • Identify, document, and recommend resolution of hazardous / potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrections have been made
  • Review and/or revise safety procedures in conformance with departmental policy, OSHA, and EM 385-1-1 regulations
  • Investigate personal injury and property damage accidents on the project; Compile data, photographs, etc., and prepare all pertinent forms and reports per program procedures and federal, state, local regulations associated with accidents. Analyze accident and incident reports for trends and make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.
  • Issue various fire, entry permits (to confined spaces), and other permits as required
  • Exercise initiative or, as directed, perform additional duties to meet the needs of the organization
In addition to the above responsibilities, this position will be responsible for the following:
  • Conduct safety orientations and weekly safety meetings - toolbox talks
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with applicable safety requirements
  • Maintain a list of all known onsite hazardous chemicals and materials along with their material safety data sheets (SDS)
  • Maintain all required safety plans, inspections, logs, controls, and other documents in digital format and hard copy onsite as required by the contract
Qualifications
  • Ability to collaborate with and function well within a team-oriented environment
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, and RMS / QCS
  • Possess working knowledge of general construction methods and practices
Education & Certifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent experience preferred
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Certification
  • HAZWOPER 40 -Hour Training & 8-hour Supervisor Training
  • Current Competent Person Certifications in the following: Confined Space; Scaffolding; Fall Protection; Cranes; Trenching & Excavation (two or more preferred)
  • Current Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED
Experience
  • 5+ years or more of cumulative construction or general industry safety experience within the last ten (10) years
  • 1 yr experience implementing Safety and Occupational Health programs at Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste sites where Level C personal protective equipment was required
  • Preferred experience with US Army Corps of Engineers and EM 385-1-1
Physical Demands/Working Environment
  • Physical demands for this position are moderate. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending or carrying of items (25-50 pounds) such as plan documents, papers, books, parts, etc. There may be times of physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, climbing or similar activities. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity. Requires a good ability to see, hear, and speak
  • Standard project site environment may include machinery, parts and chemicals; may require protective gear.
