Posting Identification Number 12-32-41026 Position Overview The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Superintendent 1 for the Dixon Springs State Park. This position will exercise budgetary controls with operating and capital improvement budgets, inspect facilities for preventative maintenance planning, oversee site security/safety programs, review, analyze and incorporate proposals concerning short and long-range plans for site maintenance, promote department programs, and serve as department representative and appear at public hearings. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their supervisory experience, problem solving skills, independent research ability and public speaking skills. Dixon Springs State Park is one of several state parks in the Illinois Shawnee Hills. The park is situated on a giant block of sandstone deposited 315 million years ago, which was dropped 500 feet along a fault line that extends northwesterly across Pope County. The resulting rocky scenery gives visitors the chance to explore breathtaking canyons and waterfalls. We welcome interested applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today. Essential Functions
  • Serves as full-line supervisor
  • Prepares and maintains site operations and financial reports/records
  • Directs and participates in the maintenance of site grounds, facilities, and equipment
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements site audit activities and programs compatible with the natural resource base
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the media and interested groups of individuals
  • Explains agency policies, rules, and regulations to site visitors to assure compliance with same
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor's degree in parks and recreation administration, or natural resource area administration, or in museum administration, history, American studies, or archeology.
  • Requires two years of supervisory experience affording training in various facets of managing an outdoor recreational park, or natural public area, or a cultural/historic site or museum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, and personnel administration.
  • Two (2) years of experience assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members.
  • Two (2) years of experience applying appropriate levels of knowledge in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Two (2) years of experience evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing independent research to assure accuracy in restoration, interpretation, and development of the site.
  • Two (2) years of experience preparing organized programs to inform and entertain site visitors.
  • Two (2) years of experience operating and maintaining tools, equipment and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair and care of site resources, artifacts, buildings, and grounds.
