Code Enforcement is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Skilled Clerk to support the operations of our department. Under the direction of the Director of Code Enforcement, this role plays a vital part in ensuring efficient daily operations while delivering excellent service to the public and staff. In this position, you will handle a variety of administrative tasks, including answering and directing phone calls, greeting and assisting office visitors, and supporting the permitting process. Your responsibilities will include logging and dispatching inspection requests and information to Fire Marshals and/or Inspectors, maintaining up-to-date contractor information, processing and delivering permits, and managing payments and bank deposits. You will also prepare reports, notarize documents, and ensure accurate record-keeping. Other duties may include distributing mail, assisting with deliveries, and providing general support to the department's Administrative Secretary and Senior Coordinator.
To succeed as a Skilled Clerk, you must have strong administrative and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least three years of clerical experience in a business office or an equivalent combination of formal business education and experience. Additional requirements include the ability to type at least 40 words per minute, pass a background check, physical exam, and drug test, and obtain a Notary Public Commission within three months of hire. As part of the Code Enforcement team, you may also be called upon to assist with emergency services during disasters.
