Salary: Starting from $23.24 hr. to $30.14 hr. in 8 steps
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week,Mon.- Fri. and additional hours as required for town-wide emergencies, snow andice removal operations.
Supervision: Supervising Foreperson
Qualifications - High School diploma or G.E.D. with three (3) years ofrelated work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, trainingand experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities toperform the essential function of the position.

1. Nature of Work:Performs skilled work within the Department of Public Works as determined andassigned by supervisor in the Lands & Natural Resources Department.2. SupervisionReceived: Works under the supervision the Lands & Natural Resourcessupervisors. Operates equipment based on supervisor's general instructions whoreviews performance for skill and efficiency and assist in cases of difficulty.3. SupervisoryResponsibility: Supervises temporary or seasonal employees as assigned.4. Confidentiality:Employee has regular access to confidential information of the department.Confidentiality must be maintained with regard to this information inaccordance with Department Policy and the Public Records Act.5. Accountability:Consequences or errors, missed deadlines or poor judgment may include adversepublic relations, monetary loss, legal repercussions, labor/material costs,personal injury, jeopardize programs, and danger to public health/safety.6. Judgment:Guidelines may be given verbally, or through administrative or organizationalpolicies, or directives. Employee is expected to weigh efficiency and relativepriorities in performing tasks to avoid breakdowns, handle emergency situationsand ensure public and environmental safety in the operation of the Lands &Natural Resources functions.7. Complexity: Thework consists of the practical application of a variety of concepts andpractices.8. Nature and Purposeof Public Contact: Employee interacts frequently with Town employees and thepublic. Excellent customer service skills are required involving courtesy,tact, and diplomacy.9. - Uses extensive knowledge and skill used in theoperation of trucks, equipment, and automobiles used in various divisional workassignments.
- Suggests modificationto equipment for more safe and efficient operation.
- Removes and prunes trees, chips debris andperforms tasks related to the care and maintenance of Town owned lands.
- Performs routine tasksin connection with care, upkeep, repair, marking and beautification of conservationland, highway, and roads, such as but notlimited to using and operating landscaping equipment and power tools, cuttinggrass, weeds and brush.
- May be required to cleanculverts, catch basins, drains and ditches; load and unload trucks and cars;spread sand or gravel.
- Accepts deliveries ofsupplies and equipment.
- Assists in trainingnew employees in performing assigned duties.
- Participates inoperation and ordinary maintenance of equipment.
- Performs similar tasksas assigned, including functions of those in a lower classification.
- Cross trains withother Department employees.
- Is available forovertime and call backs in the event of emergencies.
- Participates intown-wide snow and ice removal operations.

Recommended Minimum Qualification: Education and Experience:High School diploma or G.E.D. with three (3) years of related work experience;or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience whichprovides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essentialfunction of the position. Special Requirements: Valid Massachusetts Driver'sLicense and Class B CDL license.11. Knowledge,Abilities and Skill:
- Ability tounderstand and apply verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of theoperation of necessary equipment and tools used in the performance of assignedwork.
- Knowledge ofchemicals used for cleaning.
- Ability to dealeffectively and tactfully with fellow employees, supervisors, and the generalpublic.
12. Work Environment:The nature of duties may involve continuous presence of unpleasant orirritating elements, such as noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat,cold, oil, dirt, or grease. Work is performed indoors and outdoors duringinclement weather conditions.13. OccupationalRisks: Duties regularly present potential risks of injuries from improperexposure that could result in loss of time from work. Examples of injuries,muscular strains, falls from heights. Special safety precautions, training, orprotective clothing such as chaps, gloves, glasses, hats or boots will berequired/provided.14.
