* Position Summary
Slitter Operator-Must be able, and willing to learn the complete operation of the Slitter. This includes but not limited to: Set up of knives, filling out daily production reports, reading a tape measure, changing over arms, operating and adjusting all controls required to run the Slitter, welding and cutting torch experience. Working with the other Slitter operator, and supervisors on daily production requirements. Work with maintenance personnel when required.
Primary Responsibilities
* Performance of all operational duties required to produce quality product off of the slitting line, including but not limited to set up, load, and off load slitting line
* Manipulates controls and utilizes various material handling devices to move material into and away from slitting operation
* Observes incoming and finished material and reports apparent defects or equipment malfunction to operator and/or Supervisor
* Bands, bundles, tack welds, etc. to secure and bundle slit coils. Identify same by marking, tagging, etc. per instructions
* Maintains minimum standards of production in position while providing acceptable quality
* Assist in maintaining tooling using care in handling, cleaning and proper storage of same.
* Performs other miscellaneous related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
* Maintains a neat, orderly work area
* Makes daily time, production and material usage reports
* Required to adhere to all safety rules and regulations and participate in safety efforts
* Performs job functions using safe workplace practices
II. Basic Qualifications
* Education
* High School diploma / GED
* Experience
* 1 - 3 years of industrial experience
* Technical Skills
* Computer skills
* Basic understanding of computer software
* Ability to navigate on a computer
* Mathematical skills
* Basic understanding of the metric system
* Mechanical skills
* Experience making mechanical adjustments to equipment
* Experience reading and interpreting gauges and dials
* Ability to use measuring tape
* Other Requirements
* Attention to detail
* Ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
* Ability to perform Root Cause analysis and possess the skills necessary to troubleshoot any issues efficiently
* Ability to work in a team as well as independently
* Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment
* Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
* Must be able to combine standing and walking 70 - 100% of a shift; lift up to 50 pounds frequently

* TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Coil processing equipment related to slitter, various material handling devices, bar equipment, burning and welding equipment, hand tools, tooling, measuring devices, etc.
* MATERIALS
Coils of steel rod and strip of various gauges and sizes required to manufacture steel grating.
III. Preferred Qualifications
* Education
* Vocational school courses in mathematics and geometry, blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, metalworking, drafting and quality and safety practices are highly recommended.
* Experience
* 3 - 5 years of steel industry experience
* Other Skills
* Must have a positive attitude
* Must be a motivated and results oriented individual
* Must work well in high stress environments
