This position requires a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department's Drivers Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
  • three (3) or more moving violations in the past 3 years that accumulate 3 or more points per violation;

A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.POSITION DESCRIPTION: Administer an area-wide vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance service and repair program. Analyze work needs and develop and implement a comprehensive work plan to accomplish the required results. Evaluate motor vehicles, heavy equipment and related equipment by conducting test drives to diagnose problems and/or check repairs. Coordinate repairs with contractors, vendors and other Shops. Develop and review contract scope; manage daily service and repair needs; issue work orders and process invoices while maintaining the budget. Implement quality reviews and inspections of vendor, contract, and in-house work to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness and compliance with provided specifications. Resolve discrepancies verbally and in writing with vendors and contractors to achieve required results. Documents all maintenance and repair work in the appropriate Florida Department of Transportation database. Possesses a Unit Purchasing Card for equipment orders not to exceed $20,000. Perform minor cost-effective work/service on vehicles and equipment as required.Schedule, participate in and maintain records of all required shop/facility/equipment inspections to ensure that all inspections are current. Perform/coordinate inspection as needed on vehicle wash facilities, emergency generators, fire suppression systems, small engines, pump stations, and radio equipment. Coordinate all maintenance and repair as needed. Coordinate Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) hazardous waste handling, storage, and shipping with District Maintenance Environmental Operations and maintain files per DEP and the Department rules and regulations. Keep shop area clean, organized and clutter-free.Assists District Fleet Manager with the Mobile Equipment Replacement Program and the disposal of surplus/under-utilized mobile equipment. Evaluates area wide fleet condition/utilization and makes recommendations to and takes actions at the request of the District Fleet Manager.Maintain the Unit's fuel site to ensure fuel levels are above 40% and place fuel orders as necessary. Ensure that the fuel site is operated in a manner such that all environmental and safety standards are adhered to.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of preventative maintenance of automobiles, truck diesel engines or related equipment.
    • Knowledge of property storage and handling of waste materials in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Knowledge of relevant department technical manuals, procedures, rules, regulations necessary to ensure contract compliance.
    • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
    • Skill in diagnosis and evaluation of automotive and heavy equipment.
    • Skill in contract management which includes preparation of work orders, purchasing, performance of quality assurance inspections, review and approval of contractor invoices, and other related contract management activities required to ensure that contractors comply with the terms and conditions of maintenance contracts.
    • Skilled in the use of a personal computer.
    • Skilled with spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
    • Ability to read, write and understand technical language and work orders.
    OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Possess a valid Class B CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with air brakes at the time of hire. While on-duty status, the position's incumbent must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), consistent with the type of commercial driver's license (CDL) the incumbent is required to possess, or on a routine basis perform other CMV safety-sensitive functions. To be in compliance with the District Two Loss Prevention Procedure and be aware of reducing personal injury and vehicular accidents.The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates. This position will be required to respond before, during, and following emergency situations.Responsible for adhering to the provisions and requirements of section 215.422, F.S., related State Comptroller's rules, and the Department of Transportation's invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
