Job Description:

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has an opening for full-time SNAP-Ed Nutritionists working 37.5 hours per week from the Lockport and/or Niagara Falls, NY office.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention (SNAP-Ed) Nutritionist will primarily be responsible for delivery of established SNAP-Ed public education programming to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout the Western SNAP-Ed Region (Erie, Genesee, Niagara Counties) and specifically focused on Niagara County. This position will also assist with marketing efforts for SNAP-Ed programming in collaboration with other nutritionists in the SNAP-Ed region.

This is a 1.0FTE grant-funded position. Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program is through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Federal Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Community and Behavioral Health, Health Education, and/or Public Health. Associates Degree in Nutrition, Health Education, Public Health, or closely related field plus 2 years transferrable program/functional experience may substitute. Experience relevant to the role of the position. Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English. Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate. Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods. Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information. Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities to complete work in a timely manner and within established deadlines. Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences (one-on-one and group) and work with diverse audiences of all ages maintaining cultural sensitivity. Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor. Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel. Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Registered Dietitian preferred. Experience with community education, nutrition education or outreach Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in Spanish or other languages spoken in the target population. Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community. Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods, utilizing business expense accounts and pragmatic use of resources. Familiarity with reviewing and following recipes and assure compliance to federal and state guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Delivery 75% Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to implement the recruitment and teaching of the targeted number of both adult and youth participants in the SNAP-Ed Program. Deliver high quality educational programming, partner, and community outreach to individuals and groups utilizing via workshops, presentations, demonstrations, and lessons existing SNAP-Ed program materials and resources. Provide virtual and in-person programming which follows current statewide guidance for the safety of the Association and the community. Create recorded video demonstrations and curricula-based programs to support statewide education efforts. Under the direction and oversight of the Supervisor, occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans as identified. Under the direction and oversight of the Supervisor, adapt lesson plans and materials as needed to meet established program objectives. Implement already-established SNAP-Ed educational programing and program activities in support of other nutrition programming efforts as identified/needed to support the established plan of work. Assist in providing existing information to bring awareness to the public in the form of impact statements, articles for progress/annual reports, and news releases, etc. Provide SNAP-Ed educational programs via mass media. Work to foster acceptance of the SNAP-Ed Program, methods and policies while addressing community and individual needs and considering diverse audiences. Assist in multi-association team efforts through joint planning and program implementation of multi-disciplinary programs and program activities including, but not limited to: in-person workshops, digital education in the form of virtual lessons, and other electronic methods, as assigned, to deliver the SNAP-Ed Program. Serve as a subject-matter resource in the area of Nutrition to staff and participants, community organizations and the general public. Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire association and nutrition program staff to achieve SNAP-Ed/Nutrition grant goals as well as overall association goals. Represent CCE before the public, participants, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner as part of program delivery.

Program Evaluation 5% Implement program evaluation as designed. Interact with program participants, advisory committees, Cornell program specialists and faculty, county, and community leaders to obtain evaluation data for programs. Assist in the process of analyzing collected program data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods. Assist with making recommendations for improvement/changes to strengthen and improve programmatic offerings. Communicate evaluation results and findings to constituents as appropriate.

Administrative Direction 5% Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational SNAP-Ed programming via various methods. Provide input to assist supervisor with planning program budget and needs. Assist in the planning of public events and programs including, but not limited to, assisting with mass media efforts related to upcoming events and programs.

Administrative Management 5% Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e., program supplies and materials)

Administrative Coordination/Operation 5% Organize and coordinate SNAP-Ed program activities (i.e., food demonstrations, direct lessons to adults and youth, etc.) to support delivery of established program goals. Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to implement the recruitment and teaching of the targeted number of both adult and youth participants in the SNAP-Ed Program. Coordinate identified administrative aspects of the SNAP-Ed Program including, but not limited to: preparing correspondence, maintaining files, maintaining participant records, etc. ensuring confidentiality of all information. Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials. Organize and coordinate SNAP-Ed program activities (i.e., food demonstrations, direct lessons to adults and youth, etc.) to support delivery of established program goals. Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to implement the recruitment and teaching of the targeted number of both adult and youth participants in the SNAP-Ed Program. Coordinate identified administrative aspects of the SNAP-Ed Program including, but not limited to preparing correspondence, maintaining files, maintaining participant records, etc. ensuring confidentiality of all information. Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts. Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials. Coordinate identified administrative aspects of the SNAP-Ed Program including, but not limited to: preparing Maintain records, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process. Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of SNAP-Ed programming efforts to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, multi-media efforts and the environmental change initiative in collaboration with other nutritionists. Maintain records, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process. Maintain confidentiality of information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained. Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested. Transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned 5% In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities. Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position. Carry out assignments and other duties as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to local health fairs, community activities, etc. Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
