Keep reading.The Snowmaking Shift Lead isresponsible for directing the activities of workers engaged in making snow on the mountain, including the operation, maintenance, and repair of the snowmaking system. Overall responsibilities include the operation and functioning of high-pressure air and water systems used in the production of snow and the proficient understanding of the control system.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)
  • Responsible for the training employees in safe work practices, and interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations.
  • Assist in implementing the resort snowmaking Plan with special attention to the safety of all personnel and maximum shift efficiency.
  • Regularly inspect and conduct necessary maintenance on snowmaking equipment as needed. This includes, but is not limited to: charge and inspect all lines; check all valves and valve boxes for leaks; maintain and repair hydrants; assist with fan gun maintenance; grease and oil tower gun bases; assist with pump house maintenance; and operate and utilize the snowmaking control system to its full capacity.
  • Maintain safe and orderly winter recreation areas by setting up, storing and operating on-hill equipment in a safe manner.
  • Communicate with other mountain operations departments daily regarding mountain operations, snow conditions, special needs, and other relevant information.
  • Assist with hiring, motivating, evaluating, and directing staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives. Ensure that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary.
  • Maintain and enhance a guest focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with snowmaking personnel and paperwork issues, according to resort guidelines for hiring, employee evaluations, disciplinary procedures, and setting of schedules for the snowmaking department.
  • Must be able to operate a snow cat, snow machine and ATV.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervises up to 5-7 employees in the Snowmaking department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting the Snowmaking Supervisor and Grooming & Snowmaking Manager with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.COMPUTER SKILLSTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust have valid Vermont Operator's License and be eligible for Jay Peak Inc's motor insurance policy.OTHER QUALIFICATIONSPipe welding certification.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employees is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.RESORT CONDITIONSThis is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multi-level buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out.
