Job Description:

The ACE Observatory seeks a creative, strategic, and collaborative Social Media Coordinator Volunteer to help build and manage our online presence and engage with our audience across various social media platforms. Reporting to the Director and working alongside other program officers, volunteers, and interns, the Social Media Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the observatory's mission and brand. We seek a dynamic individual with a strong understanding of social media trends, best practices, and analytics. The ideal candidate should have a keen eye for design and the ability to create visually appealing and engaging content that resonates with our target audience. They should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to adapt their tone and style to suit different platforms and audiences.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for creating and curating content, managing our social media calendar, monitoring and responding to comments and messages, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize our social media presence. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and have a proactive approach to problem-solving.

BACKGROUND

The ACE Observatory is an open and participatory multi-level based infrastructure for policymakers, civil society, and practitioners alike developed in partnership with the UNFCCC. The aim is to dramatically increase people-centered climate action and climate justice assessment, power collective intelligence, inspire strategic leaps, and attract investment from funders. Our social media presence is crucial in raising awareness about our work, engaging with our stakeholders, and driving meaningful change.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of Communications and working with a multidisciplinary team, the Social Media Manager will:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with the ACE Observatory's mission, values, and brand identity.
  • Create and curate engaging, informative, and visually appealing content for various social media platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Manage the social media content calendar, ensuring a consistent and timely flow of posts across all platforms.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries on social media in a timely and professional manner, fostering a positive and engaging online community.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and execute social media campaigns and initiatives that support the observatory's goals and objectives.
  • Analyze social media metrics and performance data to inform strategy, optimize content, and report on key insights and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience managing social media accounts for a brand, organization, or institution.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, best practices, and analytics tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms and audiences.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools, such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the non-profit, environmental, or climate justice sector.
  • Knowledge of climate change, climate justice, and climate governance issues.
  • Familiarity with web analytics tools, such as Google Analytics.
  • Familiarity with social media management tools, such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or Buffer.
