This position is located at Fort Drum, New York.

Ft Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is located in Northern New York's picturesque North County, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Guthrie Army Health Center, is located at Fort Drum, New York, near the city of Watertown. Watertown is located in the scenic 1,000 lakes region of upstate New York. Responsibilities:

As a Social Worker (Substance Abuse), you will:

  • Performs ongoing behavioral health risk assessments of Soldiers, to include behavioral health disorders, terminal illness, chronic/debilitating illness, etc.
  • Determines health intervention needs, resource needs, issues related to compliance with medical care plans, medical/physical evaluation board actions, and issues related to transitioning back to duty or into the civilian sector.
  • Monitors behavioral health treatment of the Soldier to ensure Soldier receives required behavioral health care.
  • Collaborates with the Soldier Recovery Unit, Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC), and designated Veterans Benefits Administration staff to develop and facilitate an individual Comprehensive Recovery Plan for each Soldier.
  • Serves as the interdisciplinary treatment team behavioral health consultant.
  • Provides treatment in the context of supportive counseling, brief-solution focused interventions, and crisis counseling to Soldiers.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of the social work role and its effectiveness within the Soldier Recovery Unit and translate to program development and clinical services.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Clinical/Soldier Recovery Unit):Degree:Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting behavioral health risk assessments, determining behavioral health intervention needs, and monitoring behavioral health treatment and/or participate in treatment planning. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
