We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Social Worker specializing in Substance Abuse Counseling to join our team. In this critical role, you will provide therapeutic counseling and case management services to justice-involved women, both during their detention and in the community post-release. This position is ideal for a professional committed to recovery, stability, and holistic support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver holistic counseling and case management to women in detention and upon community re-entry.
- Assess client needs based on substance use severity, treatment readiness, and individual circumstances, creating tailored treatment plans using a person-centered approach.
- Coordinate with clients' support networks and other service providers to enhance treatment planning, promote recovery, and ensure community stability.
- Utilize evidence-based methods, including motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client documentation in both electronic databases and hard files.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and external resource partner collaborations.
- Adhere to all Rikers Island procedures and security regulations, including PREA compliance.
- Fulfill additional duties or special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Licensure: LMHC, LMSW, or LCSW required; CASAC certification preferred.
- Experience:
- Experience with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Familiarity with evidence-based treatment models for substance use and mental health.
- Previous experience with criminal justice-involved populations is preferred.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse, culturally inclusive settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related technical skills.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Must establish productive boundaries and collaborate respectfully with DOC staff.
- Spanish fluency is a plus.
- Compliance: Successful completion of a DOC background investigation is required.
