Job Summary:

The Oncology Social Worker (OSW) plays an integral role on the interdisciplinary team by providing clinical psychosocial support services to adult cancer patients and their families facing initial diagnosis, relapse or end of life. The OSW helps to facilitate patient/family coping with the goal of promotinghealthy coping skills and improving quality of life.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct psychosocial assessment and provide ongoing counseling to patients that are referred from the medical team or that are identified as experiencing emotional distress through Psychosocial Distress Screening.
  • Develop and implement cancer support programs for patients and families affected by Cancer. These services will include but are but not limited to; disease specific support groups, peer support programs, caregiver needs, survivorship, and other alternative means of support.
  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Team on an ongoing basis to ensure that the medical treatment plan is being followed, and the most optimum outcome is reached.
  • Act as a member of The Cancer Committee and participate in Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.
  • Document in the EMR and in MIDAS.
  • Record statistics of community calls received and interventions provided.
  • Attend conferences and in-service trainings to maintain competencies and keep current with available community resources.
  • Maintain membership with the Association of Oncology Social Workers.
  • Educational Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.
  • Current New York State Social Work license.
  • Experience in the specialty area of Oncology.
  • Posted Salary Range: USD $38.39 - USD $53.75 /Hr. :

The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
