Position Title: Social Worker- Rose M. Singer Center Rikers Island Location: NY, Astoria Shift: Days Description: POSITION: Social Worker - Rose M. Singer Center REPORTS TO : Program Director - Rose M. Singer Center/Rikers Island STATUS: Full-time WORK SCHEDULE: M-F, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, some evenings and weekends required SALARY: $62,000 - $68,000 POSITION SUMMARY: Hour Children (HC) is an organization founded to help incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and their children successfully rejoin the community, reunify with their families, and build healthy, independent, and secure lives. Hour Children provides compassionate and comprehensive services approaching work in an anti-discriminatory, inclusive environment committed to HC's standards of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Social Worker/Family Services Specialist will provide services to justice involved women detained at the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island and their families in order to strengthen family connections during detention, facilitate long-term stability, and increase family reunification outcomes. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide holistic supportive counseling and case management services to women experiencing detention and their families Conduct individual and family assessments to identify needs and priorities Facilitate gender-responsive and trauma-informed group programming that addresses parenting, relationships, and navigating systems Provide visit coaching in preparation of, during, and after visits to promote positive interactions and constructive experiences for both women and their families Provide written updates to court when requested to support positive outcomes for reunification Maintain appropriate client information and documentation in electronic databases and hard files, and submit accurate data on regular basis Attend internal staff meetings, trainings, and supervision, as well as related external meetings and trainings with resource partners Comply with all Jail procedures, processes and requirements, including all security regulations and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) requirements Perform additional department or agency related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor Qualifications and Requirements: LMSW or LMHC At least two years of direct practice experience working with individuals and families impacted by incarceration, criminal justice, foster care or family court involvement, substance abuse issues, and/or intimate partner violence Successful completion of background investigation by DOC as part of volunteer application process A demonstrated commitment to parents' rights and social justice Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must have the ability to provide effective services and produce accurate written documents in a timely fashion Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally- inclusive manner Must be able to work independently and as part of team Must be able to have solid, productive boundaries and work cooperatively with DOCs and staff Computer and technical skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs Spanish language fluency is preferred Specifications for Physical Requirements: Ability to travel across the five boroughs and to the Rose M.
