MIT Investment Management Company (MITIMCo) is a department within MIT that currently manages over $30 billion in financial assets for the Institute's endowment, retirement plan, and other capital pools. Our mission is to deliver outstanding long-term investment returns for MIT, and our work directly furthers the transformative research and educational efforts of this world class institution.MITIMCo is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Application Development Team within our broader Operations group. The Software Engineer will collaborate with engineering peers as well as internal investment management, commercial real estate, and operations professionals to assist in the design and build of applications to meet investment analytics and operational data management needs. This will be a highly impactful role within the Technology Team by providing input into application architecture and executing plans to meet business objectives. The incumbent will contribute to the design, build, and operation of internally developed applications to consume data for our analytic and reporting needs in collaboration with senior engineering peers. The Software Engineer will be expected to gain industry knowledge to inform their work on ongoing development of routine enhancements in addition to participating in the architecture and development of features to extend the functionality of existing applications.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:â ¢ Participates in designing and developing new applications or features within existing applications to deliver functionality required by business stakeholders. This includes contributing to technical design specifications, program specifications, and prototypes; writing new program code and modifying existing code; assisting with technical documentation; and troubleshooting or debugging programs to solve technical problems.â ¢ Collaborates with engineering peers to contribute to the architecture of new solutions and to review existing application architecture to ensure developed applications meet current and future business needs.â ¢ Engages with peer workflows to become proficient in best practices and how they are adhered to within the application codebase.â ¢ Increases industry knowledge base through active learning; leverages relevant business knowledge to provide guidance as required to business stakeholders.â ¢ Assists with the operation and maintenance of CI/CD and unit testing frameworks. Works with team to review existing processes to ensure they will meet current and future needs.â ¢ Monitors production environments (internal and third-party applications) and aids in the research and resolution of support issues which may arise in production environments.Supervision Received:The Software Engineer will be expected to complete routine development and support tasks with supervision from senior engineering peers.Supervision Exercised:NoneQualifications & Skills:â ¢ Bachelor's Degree, preferably in math, finance, computer science, or comparable field.â ¢ Minimum of 1 years' experience in application development; some experience in a professional setting required.â ¢ Demonstrated understanding of object-oriented programming; related project work (academic, personal, or professional) required.â ¢ Experience with cloud programming and architecture; basic understanding of SQL.â ¢ Demonstrated ability to work with large, structured data sets.â ¢ Strong problem-solving skills; ability to manage time effectively and execute successfully under minimal supervision.â ¢ Effective communication and people skills; ability to work closely and effectively with technical and non-technical users.â ¢ Discretion and judgement dealing with confidential information or subject matter; ability to identify when to escalate to others a potential block or risk.â ¢ Ability and desire to work with a team.â ¢ Interest in Investment Management and/or Real Estate a plus.â ¢ Ability to work at least two days per week from MITIMCo's offices in Cambridge, MA.*Please note that MIT does not provide visa sponsorship for technical, administrative, or library full-time or part-time regular positions.
