Essential Functions of Work
- Operates refuse collection vehicles to pick up refuse from residential and commercial customers; performs routine vehicle maintenance.
- Transports large commercial refuse containers to landfills for disposal.
- General maintenance duties related to refuse collection, disposal, recycling, etc.
- Responsible for daily per-trip inspections and weekly maintenance of vehicles (greasing and washing).
- Responsible for minor repairs and upkeep on containers.
- May operate trucks and heavy equipment in snow and ice removal, sanding operations and the hauling of materials to and from work sites.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in sanitation operations or two years of experience in street construction, maintenance and repair is desirable.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement and other special licensure or equipment certifications as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at one time; stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, climb, push, pull, grasp, ride and perform similar body movements. Must possess hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate power and hand tools, motorized construction and maintenance equipment and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person, by telephone or two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. This is a full-time, non-exempt position; normal work hours are Monday through Friday. Schedule involves mandatory overtime and may include weekends and holidays. It is expected employees report to work on time, fully prepared, every day they are scheduled to work. TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day and includes transportation of materials to the landfill.
