Salary: $19.00 HourlyLocation : Beaumont, TXJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 5554Department: Solid WasteDivision: Landfill OperationsOpening Date: 06/12/2024Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions: Operates any or all of the following heavy duty equipment: track-hoe, gradall, road grader maintainer, bulldozer, DJB dump truck, compactor, track-dozer, dragline or herbicidedistributor; performs such tasks as excavating, covering and compacting landfill refuse, backfilling excavations, blading and grading roads and streets and transporting material and equipment; washes, inspects, services and makes minor repairs to equipment and reports malfunctions; climbs on and off of heavy equipment; steam cleans hydraulic oil off of equipment and clean all track equipment with shovels; wash and service small pickup trucks; walks around yard to and from office and various work sites including walking up and down slopes; mows lawn, picks up paper and cleans debris from yard, ditches and windscreen; digs out pipes and make trenches to allow proper drainage; move and stack piles of discarded tires; moves 50 gallon drums of motor oil and hydraulic fluid; locates grade markers on Landfill yard; rolls up fire hose; removes any improper discarded items from yard (i.e. paint, batteries, etc.); flags and directs traffic for extended periods of time; constructs fences/posts around perimeter of working face; exercises extreme caution in equipment operation; performs manual labor as needed.Other Job Functions: May plan and direct daily work activities of a small crew; may operate other types of equipment on relief basis; performs other duties as required. Subject to working extended hours, Saturdays and rotating shifts.Minimum Essential Qualifications Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the operating characteristics and one or more types of heavy equipment; considerable knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operation of assigned equipment; knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned equipment.Skills/Abilities: Skilled in the operation and servicing of assigned equipment; ability to operate equipment safely and skillfully in and around traffic, construction sites and work areas; ability to make minor operating adjustments and repairs and to recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment; ability to perform manual labor; ability to lead a small work crew; ability to read and write and to follow oral and written instructions.Physical Requirements: Essential: Requires heavy physical work. Constantly sees, hears, sits, walks, stands, climbs, operates heavy equipment and small hand tools; frequently stoops, bends, twists body, lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Education/Experience: High School graduation or equivalent preferred. Minimum three (3) years experience in the operation and servicing of designated equipment with emphasis placed on the operation and servicing of bulldozers, compactors and excavators preferred. Other Must possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license.
