Salary: $25.73 - $38.60 HourlyLocation : Glades Cutoff Road, FLJob Type: Full-Time Non-ExemptJob Number: 24-00030Department: Public UtilitiesDivision: Solid WasteOpening Date: 12/19/2024Closing Date: 1/10/2025 5:00 PM EasternJob Summary Position Overview: The Industrial Mechanic II performs skilled mechanical work in the diagnostic, maintenance, and repair of the Solid Waste fleet, including light and heavy equipment, small engines and automated systems used in Solid Waste operations. This role is essential in ensuring the operational efficiency of machinery and mechanical equipment to maintain production and quality standards. Reports directly to the SW Industrial Mechanic Supervisor or their designee. Essential Job Functions Key Responsibilities:Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Operation:
  • Perform preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machinery.
  • Follow diagrams, sketches, operational manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to maintain equipment functionality.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions and ensure the equipment is fully operational.
Diagnostic & Repair Work:
  • Identify the source of mechanical issues through observation, listening, and utilizing precision measuring tools.
  • Dismantle devices to remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Inspect and measure parts for dimensional changes using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and rules.
  • Adjust functional parts of equipment and control instruments using hand tools, straightedges, and levels.
  • Fabricate replacement parts using machine shop tools and equipment.
Maintenance Reporting & Compliance:
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports, summarizing trends and analysis of equipment performance.
  • Generate workorders and update as necessary with task related parts and labor, submit workorder for review upon completion.
  • Completes required inventory documentation for any orders/parts needed.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to all safety rules and procedures.

  • Ability to perform routine checks and maintenance on equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
  • Ability to use desktop programs and mobile apps to generate, update and submit workorders.
  • Must be available to work scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends, holidays and/or immediate response to emergency situations/conditions.
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers and supervisors, write clearly, read and understand technical manuals.
  • Ability to understand and comply with oral and written instructions.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and best practices for handling industrial machinery and hazardous materials.
  • Capacity to work in physically demanding environments, including heavy lifting, standing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts or other machinery used for lifting and transporting equipment.
  • Understanding of how to safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials, including chemicals used in waste processing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Good Vision and hearing, and the ability to work in challenging environments. Regular standing and walking, with tasks that may include climbing, bending, and squatting. Ability to work in awkward positions and lift up to 50 lbs. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: Exposure to both outdoor elements and industrial environments, including the landfill. Work with chemicals, hydraulic systems, and hot equipment. Use of safety glasses, gloves, coveralls, and safety shoes.SAFETY EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE): Employees are required to adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) provided to ensure a safe working environment. Specific requirements include:
  • Mandatory PPE: Employees must wear designated PPE, which may include safety goggles, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, and respiratory masks, depending on the tasks performed.
  • Safety Training: All employees will receive training on the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE to minimize risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Inspection and Maintenance: Employees are responsible for regularly inspecting their PPE for wear and tear and reporting any damaged equipment to their supervisor for replacement.

  • Valid Florida driver's license with a good driving record.
