Overview
Solid Waste Technicians perform non CDL driving related operational tasks associated with the Municipal Solid Waste industry, including but not limited to; cart delivery/repair, customer service, safety spotter, manual collections, litter pick up, waste screenings, dead animal collection, equipment maintenance/washing, asset repair, turf management and light equipment operation.
Responsibilities
* Communicates with Superintendent, Planner-Scheduler, and Foremen in person, over the radio or via telephone to receive/clarify special instructions, verify delivery/pickup locations, record cart serial numbers, and address any special situations encountered.
* Assist with maintaining a safe separation of solid waste from equipment and public, both inside the facilities and outside on the city streets. Perform safety spotter service for solid waste equipment operators. Inspect work area for unsafe conditions and report/correct as needed.
* Assist with the collection of garbage and recycle routes, climb in and out of truck multiple times per day and roll cart to truck for collection and return to set out location.
* Performs pre and post trip inspections of equipment and tools including and not limited to; light trucks, forklifts, agriculture tractors and mowers, manlifts, weed eaters, and chainsaws.
* Performs small maintenance items such as painting, fence/screen repair, manual digging of cleanouts, drains, ditches and posts, pressure washing, cleaning admin offices and warehouse.
* Performs inspections of incoming loads at the landfill and transfer station to ensure compliance with permit and state regulations.
* Assists mechanics and Sanitation Equipment Operators as needed to perform preventative maintenance and light mechanical work on all solid waste heavy equipment.
* May use GPS, tablets, phones, laptops to perform simple data entry on assignments.
* Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
* Non-Exempt - Full-Time
* 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:30 pm or rotating Monday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma / GED
* Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience

* A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
