EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
* Operate County vehicle to pick-up adult community service inmates, transport to/from worksites, along the state and county roadways in compliance with all highway safety laws and speed limits.
* Established daily work priorities of the county roads that would benefit the most from a litter work crew.
* Supervise community service inmates, clear rights-of-way; cuts grass, brush and small trees with hand or power tools; loads brush as required for disposal and any day to day work request needed.
* Maintain accurate daily records of litter collected, mileage, vehicle use, as outlined by the KY Division of Waste Management grant program.
* Operate vehicle and equipment trailer - transport recycle bins to Boone County Recycling, Rumpke, Bavarian, or locations as assigned.
* Manage work orders, daily work sheets related to the Solid Waste division.
* Support outreach, promotion, and coordination of various waste collection and recycling events including but not limited to; Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, County Cleanups, Paper Shredding Days, Trash for Cash, Waste Tire Collection, and other public litter abatement and recycling programs.
* Keeps vehicles and equipment cleaned, serviced and in good operating condition; performs minor field maintenance as may be required and reports needed repairs to supervisor.
* Maintain facility lot- Clear debris, organize and load appliances, metals, propane, oil and antifreeze.
* This position will also be required to work Kenton County Cleanups, County Fair, Senior Picnic, and other municipal events as needed.
* Operates snow plow and salt spreaders. Performs duties associated with the County's snow and ice policies. Attends required training classes.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

* High school graduate.
* Ability to get along with others in the work place and/or in the field and to respect their rights as individuals

* Ability to record the quantities of material used on the job.
* Ability to work effectively on a daily basis with standard supervision.

* Good working knowledge of the equipment, tools, etc. used to perform required daily work operations;
* Knowledge of basic field maintenance procedures to keep equipment, tools, etc. in good working condition.
* Experience in performing road maintenance; or any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.
* Ability to read and/or view training materials and safety information and to comprehend same.
* Must be able to obtain FREON Extraction Certification within (1) year of employment.

GENERAL NATURE OF WORK
This is skilled and unskilled work in the Public Works Division of Solid Waste. Manages the daily operation of the established Litter Crew Program. This program includes working with adult inmates assigned by the courts and/or the Detention Center to perform community service and have been determined to safely provide litter pick-up services within Kenton County. Generally works as part of a crew but may be assigned to work alone. Community Recycling Program, and County Cleanup Events; but not limited to working with other county departments, agencies and the public. Duties are performed under limited supervision.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Must be 18 years of age.
* Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification.
* Ability to obtain a (Class B) commercial motor vehicle operator's license within (6) six months of employment.
* Upon appointment, employees in this class shall be required to maintain a valid driver's license and may be required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status shall be necessary for the length of time in this class. Applicants and employees in this job title shall be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.
* Must complete CPR/AED training and obtain certification within one year of employment.
* Must be able to respond to emergencies and be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Must be available to work a semi-flexible shift, including occasional weekend work. Must be able to lift forty (40) pounds or more to a height of four (4) feet or more.
* Must be able to work extended hours in weather conditions which may range from extreme heat to extreme cold and which frequently may be inclement.
* Must be able to work at heights of twenty (20) feet or more.
* Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
* Eye sight must correctable to 20/20 vision.
* Hearing must be within normal acceptable range of 20-25 with or without a hearing aid.
