Boot Ranch is a private member community and club located in the famed Hill Country of Texas. The Club is located close to all Hill Country activities, is 1 hour from San Antonio, 1.5 hours from Austin, and 4 hours from both Dallas / Fort Worth and Houston.

The Club and community is nestled in the Texas Wine Country, second only to Napa Valley as a wine growing region. The Hill Country is home to more than 45 wineries and growing.

The Sommelier/Bar Manager at Boot Ranch is responsible for curating an exceptional wine and beverage program while managing the bar operations. The Sommelier/Bar Manager provides expert guidance on wine selection, creates innovative cocktails and ensures that the beverage offerings enhance the overall member experience. This role requires a blend of sophisticated palate, leadership skills and a passion for delivering outstanding service. The Sommelier possesses

extensive knowledge of wines, vineyards and the winemaking process. They have excellent communication skills, a tasteful palate and the ability to create harmonious food and wine pairings.   • Elevates wine culture and knowledge among the hospitality team. Exudes excitement and a contagious passion for wine, motivating others to enhance their knowledge.
  • Assists with mentoring and training all front-of-house staff on hospitality service standards.
  • Drives hospitality and stellar service through ongoing training of staff to achieve exceptional experiences and engagement with members.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
  • Communicates effectively using open, professional dialogue and solution focused communication.
  • Thoroughly follows procedures of including, but not limited to the Clubhouse bar, cellar, wine, liquor and beer storage areas for cleanliness and compliance.
  • Responsible for all wine service on property.
  • Assists in multiple yearly events, wine dinners and tastings and performs various duties to help ensure the success of the event.
  • Maintains and performs monthly wine, liquor and beer inventory to avoid any variances and assists the Clubhouse Manager in preparing orders and receiving deliveries.
  • Builds lasting relationships with our wine society and wine locker members. Agile and enthusiastic learner, who will be comfortable moving fluidly between projects, and duties.
  • Actively train and educate service staff on proper wine service and knowledge.
  • Actively seeks knowledge and information of Boot Ranch and our goals of member satisfaction.
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance. The position will require flexibility in hours and days worked and includes evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Works closely and in collaboration with the Food and Beverage Director, Executive Chef and the General Manager.
  • Other projects closely and duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Director.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Associate degree or Bachelors degree from a four-year university with a focus in hospitality or business is preferred but not required
  • Certified Sommelier, CSW or WSET Level 2 preferred
  • Experience working in fine dining and has a thorough understanding of the luxury hospitality industry and its standards
  • Detail-oriented work habits and strong organization skills
  • Problem-solving, multi-tasking and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisions independently
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Impeccable customer service and social perceptiveness
  • Ability to evaluate customer satisfaction and be responsive
  • Physical ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Available for nights, weekends, club events and holidays
  • Relevant training certificates required (TABC, Food Handlers)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variable sin standardized situations
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software, and Jonas POS and Timekeeper software. Training is available for the Jonas system.
