Job DescriptionGeneral Purpose of Job: Utilizing high frequency sound waves, provide diagnostic images of a wide variety of exams (abdomen, Ob/Gyn, Vascular, small parts, breast, neurosonography) to diagnose the absence or presence of disease. Responsible for providing patient education and quality patient care. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Analyze disease processes with the use of ultrasound through the selection of appropriate procedures and techniques.
- Coordinate past and present medical history of patient in reference to ultrasound examination.
- Schedule and instruct the patient in reference to ultrasound.
- Review current imaging techniques and interpretations to assure current information.
- Furnish occasional immediate results to appropriate medical personnel derived from ultrasound procedure.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and quality assurance.
- Seek assistance and guidance as needed from Registered Sonographer and interpreting radiologist.
Job Requirements General Requirements •Certification with ARDMS or ARRT-Sonography with minimum of Abdominal and OB/GYN credentials, within 6 months. This is a requirement for continued employment in the Ultrasound Department. •Must be CPR certified. •Minimum of AHA Heart Saver certification or BLS required. Work Experience •Minimum of one year working in a PACS environment. •Previous ultrasound experience (Preferred) Education •Must be enrolled in a fully accredited Sonography Program and proceeding successfully through the program. Upon completion of the training program, the student will have 6 months to obtain registry with ARDMS or ARRT-Sonography with minimum of Abdominal and OB/GYN credentials. Specialized Knowledge and Skills •Ability to perform requested procedures in a portable environment as needed. •Ability to perform physical requirements (visual and auditory) of the job. •Must be able to take on-call responsibilities, including weekends and holidays. •Ability to work at multiple locations. •Ability to problem solve and multi-task. •Adept with customer service. •Ability to effectively communicate with physicians. •Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
