Members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.The Sound Crew/Add Labor is primarily responsible for running shows, shop builds, load-in, and load-out for the Alliance Theatre's productions, including LORT B and D stages, as well as Theatre for Young Audiences shows. The Sound Crew also works closely with other members of the Alliance Staff including: Sound Staff, Electrics Run Crews, Stage Ops Run Crews, Stage Managers, and Actors.This is a temporary, part-time position, based on the calendar schedule of Alliance productions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:- Ensure professional installation of all sound equipment, as needed
- Attend to the actors in a calm and pleasant manor as part of a show crew
- Read and follow paperwork and instruction to prep audio system cable for installation
- Assist in safe rigging of and focus of loudspeakers and other equipment
- Re-stock equipment and cable of struck shows
- Attend run-throughs and assist in paperwork generation for show run
- Light fabrication and customization of sound-related projects
- Complete preshow equipment checks
- Assist actors with dressing and wearing wireless microphone equipment
- Run QLab show playback systems
- Participate in executing sound design for shows
- Solder and repair cabling as needed
- Troubleshoot Com, Video, and Cue Light systems
- Set up and strike tech tables during preview performances
- Assist with strike at the end of a show run
Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Experience:- Prior experience running sound for theatrical productions
- Experience in basic theatrical audio equipment, including, mixing consoles, QLab show control software, Mac computers, and wireless microphone setup
- Experience working with Equity actors or LORT theatres preferred
Skills and Abilities:- Must be skilled in following signal flow and basic audio connectors
- Must have strong listening, interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be organized and able to interpret and follow directions
- Must be able to stay calm under pressure
- Ability to reliably work a variable schedule based on season calendar
- Ability program QLab or mix sound for musical theatre preferred
- Experience with computer networking and troubleshooting preferred
- Operate hand and power tools safely.
