Master's degree in Animal Science, Animal and Dairy Science, Animal Production Management or related field.

Position Summary

This position will provide livestock education programming to address needs in both youth livestock programs and commercial farm livestock. This role serves as a UGA Public Service Faculty member and a member of the Extension Faculty. It is under the direction and leadership of the Southeast District Extension Director.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

* Collaborates with Program Development Coordinators and Extension agents and communities to plan and conduct educational programs and outreach in the area of livestock for both youth development programs and commercial livestock.

* Utilizes the expertise of Program Development Teams, community leaders, community agencies, public officials and representatives of intended audiences to identify needs and assist in developing educational programs for adults and youth.

* Utilizes current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching.

* Implements the CAES Civil Rights/Equal Opportunity plan and ensures that clientele understand that UGA Extension offers its educational programs, assistance, and materials to all people without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation or protected veteran status.

* Develops newsletters, exhibits, newspaper articles and radio programs, and a social media presence, to further reach the needs of the community and expand the public's knowledge of the Extension Livestock programs.

* Develops a plan of work that is equitable in meeting the needs of the varied county socioeconomic situations. Targets specific audiences such as youth and adults, for educational programs addressing critical issues identified in plan of work.

* Works with Program Development Coordinators, UGA Extension Agents and Research Faculty including Extension Livestock Specialists to service and support an extension and applied research program focused on commercial livestock production including beef cattle, small ruminants, horses and dairy.

* Cooperates, contributes, and addresses commercial livestock production issues being directed to County Extension Agents in the assigned area as requested.

* Prepares educational programs to present at livestock production meetings for commercial producers and conduct Showmanship Clinics for Youth Livestock programs.

* Becomes knowledgeable participant and collaborate with area livestock commodity associations, i.e., local Cattlemen Associations, related to livestock production in the assigned area.

* Promotes advancements in commercial livestock production that improve efficiency including but not limited to: genetic selection, i.e., Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs), nutrition, effective parasite control, and replacement breeding herd selection.

* Provides hands-on educational and technical information to county Extension faculty with 4-H and youth development responsibilities in livestock / animal science related projects (show clinics, etc.)

* Develops and delivers training/curriculum to county staff and clientele to improve the quality of county youth livestock programming.

* Works cooperatively with other state Extension specialists, faculty, and staff in developing and implementing multi-discipline activities.

* Assists state 4-H youth livestock specialist with coordination of livestock and horse shows, schools, judging and other educational contests at the district and state levels

* Reports youth development program impacts annually, write a Plan of Work, develop annual goals and objectives and complete other reports as required.

* Utilizes a variety of teaching methods as appropriate for each audience.

* Maintains records of program and event attendance for reporting purposes.

* Reports programming activities at county, district, and state levels in Georgia Counts.

* Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs; Seeks financial opportunities, grants, etc., to help fund programming; Budgets and manages allocated funds for equipment, supplies, travel and other program support.

* Participates in professional education development, in-service training, professional organizations and other development opportunities; Maintains a professional image.
